Optoma UHZ58LV

The Optoma UHZ58LV is a projector featuring dual-laser technology and 4K UHD resolution, delivering 3,000 lumens of brightness. It has an input lag of 8.5 ms, suited for movie projection and video games. This model carries over some technical elements from Optoma’s previous laser projectors, with adjustments aimed at meeting current market needs.

The UHZ58LV’s casing uses a compact black chassis (274 x 219 x 108 mm) with a net weight of 3.5 kg. This model shares its shell with the previously released UHZ55, as well as the lens shift system. While this reflects continuity in design, it also preserves proven installation options.

DLP technology and dual laser: technical foundations

The projector is built around a Texas Instruments DLP chip. DLP technology uses a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD): millions of microscopic aluminum mirrors mounted on hinges that tilt to reflect or deflect light, thereby creating the projected image. Each mirror can switch on and off thousands of times per second, enabling reproduction of up to 1,024 levels of gray.

The UHZ58LV’s dual-laser light source ensures instant power-on and extended lifespan up to 30,000 hours, while maintaining stable brightness over time. This longevity is an advantage over traditional lamps, which gradually lose intensity and require regular replacement.

4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution is achieved via Texas Instruments’ XPR (pixel shifting) technology. This method oscillates the DMD chip at high frequency to display multiple successive pixel positions, simulating a 4K image from a native Full HD resolution. The device thus projects 8.3 million pixels—four times that of Full HD.

Brightness and HDR formats: for versatile projection

With 3,000 lumens of brightness, the UHZ58LV enables projection in partially lit rooms. This widens usage scenarios beyond dedicated dark theaters. The claimed dynamic contrast of 3,000,000:1 aims to deepen blacks and enhance highlights.

The projector supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, two technologies that dynamically optimize contrast and colors scene by scene. Coverage of 93% of the DCI-P3 color space allows for hues close to those used in the film industry.

Filmmaker Mode, developed in collaboration with Hollywood directors and studios, disables superfluous image processing to present films as originally intended. ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) modes automatically adjust the image to suit ambient light conditions, with day and night presets.

PureEngine Ultra: customizable image processing

PureEngine Ultra technology integrates several video processes to improve motion smoothness, image sharpness, and the handling of custom settings. This system is divided into five categories: PureContrast, PureLight, PureColor, PureMotion, and PureDetail, each adjustable across three levels or switchable off.

These processes aim to optimize contrast, brightness, color quality, motion interpolation, and image detail to enhance visual realism. Users can tailor these parameters to the content type: films, video games, sports, or presentations.

Flexible installation and optical adjustments

The UHZ58LV offers a manual 1.6x optical zoom and a lens shift system providing vertical offset from -103% to +118% and horizontal up to 15%. These options make it easier to position the image without tilting or moving the device itself, reducing the risk of geometric distortion.

The throw ratio of 1.4:1 to 2.24:1 corresponds to a projection distance from 1 to 10 meters. Image size can range from 0.51 m to 8.13 m diagonal (20 to 320 inches). Horizontal and vertical keystone correction (±30°) as well as four-corner correction offer additional adjustment leeway.

The projector supports 360-degree installation and can operate continuously (24/7), making it suitable for professional or event use as well.

Connectivity and gaming features

Connectivity includes three HDMI inputs, one HDMI 2.1 with eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel) and two HDMI 2.0. eARC allows transmission of high-definition audio streams, including Dolby Atmos, to a soundbar or external audio system. WiSA SoundSend certification enables wireless connection to WiSA-certified speakers for synchronized audio with no perceptible latency.

For gaming, the UHZ58LV offers ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and delivers an input lag of just 4 ms at 1080p 240 Hz. In 4K, it runs at 60 Hz, while in Full HD it can reach 240 Hz with 8.5 ms input lag. These capabilities put the projector in contention for responsive gaming, even if still behind the very best gaming monitors.

The projector also includes three USB-A ports (one 1.5A and two 2A), a 3.5 mm mini-jack audio out, an optical S/PDIF out, an RJ45 port for network control, an RS232 port, and two 12V triggers for synchronization with a motorized screen.
