Overview
With the Vibes XL, German manufacturer Sonoro replaces its previous ESCAPE series with a new generation of portable speakers designed for large spaces. Its 73 cm vertical format and 12.3 kg weight place this model somewhere between compact Bluetooth speakers and stationary hi-fi systems. This is a deliberate choice: the Vibes XL prioritizes power and sound coverage over lightness.
Acoustic design tailored for large areas
The internal architecture of the Vibes XL is based on four 7.62 cm full-range drivers arranged around the cabinet, combined with a 20.32 cm (8-inch) subwoofer. This configuration enables multi-directional sound dispersion, suitable for both a terrace and a large living room. The stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz covers the entire audible spectrum, from deep bass to detailed highs.
Compared to the Vibes L, which shares the same subwoofer but only features two full-range drivers, the XL version doubles the sound radiation capacity. The extra weight (12.3 kg versus 7.5 kg) directly reflects this difference in hardware.
Bluetooth 5.4 and Auracast: next-generation wireless connectivity
The Vibes XL incorporates the latest generation of Bluetooth connectivity. The move to version 5.4, from version 4.2 on the previous ESCAPE series, brings better connection stability and reduced power consumption. The speaker supports SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX HD codecs for standard audio transmission, plus the LC3 codec specific to Bluetooth LE Audio.
Auracast is the most significant addition. It allows the same audio stream to be broadcast simultaneously to multiple compatible speakers or headphones, without prior pairing. In a garden or at a party, several people equipped with Auracast headphones can listen to the same source. Combined with Sonoro systems such as the AVATON, the Vibes XL can also be integrated into a multiroom ecosystem.
Outdoor construction and finishes
The cabinet has a vertical format with a fabric covering that Sonoro describes as “premium”, combined with aluminum elements for the finishes and the carrying handle. Three colors are available: black, white and tan.
IPX4 certification guarantees splash resistance, allowing use near a swimming pool or in light rain. However, the speaker is not waterproof: immersion or prolonged exposure to water should be avoided. The large base (275 × 280 mm) ensures stability on flat surfaces, an important consideration given the height of the product.
Everyday battery life and control
The built-in battery promises up to 16 hours of playback, a figure quoted for listening at moderate volume. At high volume, this duration drops significantly, as with most portable speakers in this category. Power is supplied via the included mains cable. The USB-C port on the device is reserved for maintenance and does not allow charging external devices or playing audio files.
On-speaker controls let you manage playback, volume and Bluetooth pairing without using a phone. For more advanced control, the sonoro VIBES app, available on iOS and Android, provides access to detailed settings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Vibes XL stay permanently plugged into the mains?
Yes, the speaker can remain connected to the power supply for stationary use. The integrated charging management protects the battery from overcharging.
Can two Vibes XL speakers be paired for stereo sound?
Sonoro has not communicated about this feature for the Vibes range. The previous ESCAPE series offered a Twin mode allowing two P9 speakers to be paired. If this option exists on the Vibes XL, it will be accessible via the dedicated app.
Which devices are compatible with Auracast?
Auracast requires devices equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 or higher with support for Bluetooth LE Audio. Currently, some recent smartphones (Pixel 8 and later, Samsung Galaxy S23/S24/S25, Xiaomi 14/15) and next-generation headphones are compatible. The ecosystem is gradually expanding.
What is the difference compared with the Vibes L?
The Vibes L is 55 cm high versus 73 cm for the XL, and weighs 7.5 kg. It features two full-range drivers instead of four, with the same 8-inch subwoofer. Battery life and IPX4 certification are identical.
