Sonos Pack Ray + 2x Era 100 SL + Sub mini white

This bundle brings together the soundbar Ray, two Era 100 SL speakers, and the Sub Mini subwoofer to create a 5.1 setup without any cables between the components. The four devices communicate via Wi‑Fi, are configured from a single app, and work just as well for movies as for multiroom music. Sonos here offers its entry‑level surround configuration, designed for medium‑sized rooms.

A compact soundbar that fits anywhere

The Sonos Ray measures 55.9 cm long, 7.1 cm high, and 9.5 cm deep. It easily slides into a TV stand niche or under a 55‑inch screen. Its matte polymer chassis (black or white) limits light reflections coming from the screen. The honeycomb front grille follows the aesthetic codes of Sonos’ other products.

On the audio side, the Ray houses four class‑D digital amplifiers powering two central tweeters and two mid‑bass drivers. A bass‑reflex system completes the package. All transducers are front‑firing: the Ray can therefore be built into a piece of furniture without loss of sound quality, whereas other bars that radiate to the sides would lose soundstage width.

Connection to the TV is via an optical cable (included). The Ray decodes stereo PCM, Dolby Digital 5.1, and DTS Digital Surround, but does not handle Dolby Atmos. An integrated infrared receiver allows you to use the TV remote control for volume. Voice enhancement improves dialogue intelligibility; night mode reduces dynamic range for late‑night viewing.

Two surround speakers without microphones

The Era 100 SL use the same acoustic architecture as the Era 100 with one notable difference: the complete absence of microphones. So no voice control, but also a lower price and peace of mind for those who prefer to avoid connected mics at home. The “SL” (Speechless) suffix follows the logic already applied to the previous One SL.

Each speaker contains three class‑D amplifiers, two tweeters angled 90 degrees from each other to create stereo separation, and one mid‑woofer. The format remains compact: 18.2 cm high, 12 cm wide, 13 cm deep, weighing 1.95 kg. The matte finish visually matches the Ray and Sub Mini.

In a surround setup, the Era 100 SL are placed behind the listening area, about three meters from the seated position, slightly elevated if possible. They receive the left and right surround channels via Wi‑Fi 6 (2.4 or 5 GHz), with no cable to the soundbar. Bluetooth 5.3 and AirPlay 2 remain available for standalone use.

Without a built‑in microphone, Trueplay calibration requires an iPhone or iPad: the app uses the phone’s mic to analyze the room’s acoustics and adjust the equalization.

A cylindrical subwoofer that digs deep

The Sub Mini adopts a cylindrical design 30.5 cm high and 23 cm in diameter. Its shape sets it apart from traditional subwoofers and allows it to slide under a desk, next to a sofa, or into a discreet corner. The weight of 6.35 kg remains reasonable.

Inside, two 15 cm woofers face each other in a so‑called “force‑cancelling” configuration: the membrane movements cancel each other out mechanically, which reduces unwanted vibrations transmitted to the floor or furniture. A sealed acoustic enclosure limits distortion. Sonos claims a frequency response down to 25 Hz, a low value for a subwoofer of this size.

Connection to the rest of the system is via 5 GHz Wi‑Fi. An Ethernet port allows a wired link if necessary. Equalization between the Sub Mini and the other components is performed automatically during pairing; the bass level remains manually adjustable in the app.

Assembling the 5.1 system in the app

The four components are configured in the Sonos app (iOS or Android). The Ray is first connected to the TV via optical cable. Next comes the Sub Mini, which is associated with the Ray in the same virtual “room”. The two Era 100 SL are finally added as left and right surround speakers: this step is called “bonding” in Sonos terminology. A simple “grouping” of rooms would not produce true surround but a slight time delay.

Once the system is assembled, the front channels (left, center, right) go through the Ray, the surround channels through the Era 100 SL, and the low frequencies (LFE channel) through the Sub Mini. Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS decoding takes advantage of this distribution into five channels plus one bass channel.

Trueplay calibration optimizes the whole setup: the user moves around the room with their phone, the app records sound reflections, then adjusts the equalization of each speaker. This process takes around three minutes and significantly improves performance in rooms with challenging acoustics (glass walls, tiled floors, high ceilings).

Music and multiroom

Beyond films and series, the bundle works like a conventional audio system. All four components play music together streamed from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, or any other compatible service. AirPlay 2 lets you send sound from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Bluetooth 5.3 on the Era 100 SL allows direct playback from any paired device.

The Sonos app offers a “Surround Audio” setting for music: in “Full” mode, the Era 100 SL actively participate in playback; in “Ambient” mode, they produce a more discreet background sound. The Sub Mini adds body to bass‑demanding tracks, especially electronic music or hip‑hop.

The system can be integrated into an existing multiroom setup. The Ray and its associated speakers form a single zone, but sound can be sent simultaneously to other Sonos products in other rooms.

Audio formats and connectivity

The Ray accepts only one digital optical input. Recent TVs generally provide this output, often labeled “Digital Audio Out” or “Optical Out”. Models equipped exclusively with HDMI eARC outputs and no optical will require an audio extractor, which complicates installation.

Dolby Atmos is not supported: Atmos tracks will be downmixed to Dolby Digital 5.1. For native Atmos playback, Sonos offers the Arc and Beam (Gen 2) soundbars, compatible with HDMI eARC.

The Era 100 SL have a USB‑C port on the back. An optional adapter (Sonos Line‑In Adapter) allows you to connect a turntable or another analog device via a 3.5 mm jack cable. A second adapter (Sonos Combo Adapter) adds an Ethernet port for a wired connection.
