Overview
Five speakers, a single speaker, a compact 19 cm-wide format: the Music Studio 7 packs a 3.1.1-channel configuration into an enclosure designed by Erwan Bouroullec, the French designer known for his collaborations with Vitra, Kartell, and Hay. This is the second time Bouroullec has worked with Samsung, after The Serif television, which won an iF Design Gold Award in 2016.
A Bouroullec-designed object, understated and sculptural
The Music Studio 7 takes the form of a parallelepiped with rounded edges, barely thicker than a picture frame. Its front panel features a circular pattern, the “Dot,” which Bouroullec describes as an abstract reference to musical notation: a point from which the sound seems to emanate. The silver finishes on a white background (the LS71H model; the LS70H is available in black) contribute to this intentional understatement.
With a width of 185 mm, a height of 269 mm, and a depth of 190.5 mm, for 5.6 kg, the speaker sits on a shelf, TV stand, or console without imposing its presence. The controls are placed on the front, accessible without moving the speaker. There is no remote control in the box: operation is handled via the physical buttons, voice commands (Alexa is built in), or the SmartThings app.
3.1.1 channels in a single enclosure
The internal structure distributes five drivers across four diffusion axes: left, center/front, right, and upward. It is this last path that provides the additional “.1” in the 3.1.1 configuration, enabling vertical spatial reproduction of Dolby Atmos content. A central woofer provides low-end foundation, and a super tweeter reaches up to 35 kHz, beyond audible range, to reproduce the finest harmonics of high-resolution recordings.
Samsung developed Pattern Control Technology for this model in its California Audio Lab. The principle consists of adding phase-control signals on the left, right, and vertical channels relative to the center channel, in order to limit interference between the speakers. The intended result is a clearer soundstage, where each channel retains its directionality even in such a compact format. An integrated waveguide helps widen the listening area: there is no need to be positioned exactly on axis to enjoy coherent spatial rendering.
Signal processing and automatic calibration
Several software processes adjust reproduction in real time. AI Dynamic Bass Control adapts low-frequency behavior to get the most out of the woofer without distortion, including at high volume. AI Adaptive Sound analyzes the type of content currently being played (music or other) and modifies the audio settings accordingly, with two available modes: Music and Standard. AVA Pro (Active Voice Amplifier) detects ambient noise in the room and enhances voice intelligibility so that dialogue remains clear even in a noisy environment. Auto Volume, for its part, smooths out volume differences between sources.
SpaceFit Sound Pro goes further: the speaker uses its built-in microphones to analyze the room’s acoustics and automatically calibrate sound output and bass according to the environment. This feature is compatible with Samsung televisions from 2021 to 2026 (starting from the M80H for the 2026 range, and from the Q8FA for the 2025 range).
High-resolution audio and supported formats
Over Wi-Fi, the Music Studio 7 accepts streams up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, covering most of the high-resolution catalog available on streaming platforms. Decoded formats include MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, and ALAC. On the cinema side, the speaker supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby 5.1ch. It is also compatible with Eclipsa Audio, the open spatial codec jointly developed by Samsung and Google for OTT content, provided it is paired with a Samsung U8005H television or higher.
Roon Ready certification opens the speaker to the Roon ecosystem, which is uncommon for this type of product. Spotify Connect and Spotify Tap (via Wi-Fi) are also included, as are AirPlay 2 and Google Cast (Chromecast built in).
Connectivity and wireless connectivity
The rear panel offers an HDMI output with eARC and HDMI-CEC, as well as a digital optical input. There is no analog input or HDMI input. The USB port is reserved for maintenance.
The wireless section relies on Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0. Wireless Dolby Atmos works over Wi-Fi with a selection of Samsung televisions from 2022 to 2026 (starting from the Q80), which avoids having to run an HDMI cable between the TV and the speaker to enjoy spatial sound.
Q-Symphony and the Samsung ecosystem
Q-Symphony makes it possible to synchronize the speaker’s drivers with those of a compatible Samsung television, and possibly a soundbar, so that all the drivers work together rather than substituting one another. The speaker supports up to five products in Q-Symphony when they all belong to the 2026 range, and up to three products with the 2023 to 2025 ranges.
AI Q-Symphony adds an extra processing layer: the TV’s NPU processor separates voices from surround effects to distribute each element to the most suitable speakers. This advanced version requires a compatible television (starting from the Q70C in 2023, the Q70D in 2024, the QN70F in 2025, the M80H in 2026, or The Frame / The Frame Pro from 2024 to 2026).
Q-Symphony compatibility also covers Samsung soundbars (Q-Series 2023 to 2026 starting from the Q700, S-Series 2023-2024 starting from the S6, B-Series 2025) and the other speakers in the ecosystem: the 2024 Music Frame (LS60D) and the four 2026 Music Studio references.
Stereo, multiroom, and voice control
The Stereo Play function pairs two Music Studio 7 speakers in a stereo configuration, each speaker handling one channel. Group Play extends the principle to multiroom, with the possibility of connecting up to 10 compatible Samsung speakers on the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Compatible models include the Q600H and above, the S810D/S811D, the S66D/S67D, the Music Studio 5 and 7, and the Music Frame LS60D.
Alexa is built in for voice control. Google Assistant is accessible via Google Cast. The SmartThings app makes it possible to integrate the speaker into a broader Samsung smart home environment.
What the press says
The Samsung is a spacious, expansive listen while managing to be quite well focused at the same time. [...] It can lose the run of itself a little where high-frequency reproduction is concerned – it doesn't need any especially unsympathetic recording to make the Samsung sound just a little splashy and edgy. [...] This is the best Samsung-badged audio product I've heard in… well, I'm not sure how long exactly, but it's quite a while.
