Overview
Reproducing a voice naturally remains one of the most delicate exercises in home theater, where the slightest timbre mismatch reveals the transition from one speaker to another. The center speaker in the Solstice range meets this requirement through a precise set of choices: a sealed enclosure dedicated to dialogue, drivers and a tweeter shared with the other Solstice models, and crossover tuning aligned with that of the front speakers. Enough to keep a seamless front soundstage.
Sealed enclosure and voice intelligibility
The C3 is the only speaker in the Solstice range to use a sealed enclosure. Where the Solstice 3 and Solstice 8 breathe through a bass-reflex port, its cabinet remains airtight: the diaphragms work against a sealed volume of air, which acts like a spring and controls bass movement. The result is apparent in dialogue, where a deep voice or a muffled effect remains intelligible, without overhang or added resonance. This enclosure goes a little less deep than a similarly sized ported system, with its response stopping around 50 Hz; the deepest frequencies in a soundtrack therefore fall to the subwoofer. In return, the center speaker fits easily into a cabinet, with no rear port needing clearance behind it.
The TZ2540MG horn-loaded tweeter
A center speaker is rarely listened to on-axis: viewers are spread out on either side of the sofa. The tweeter therefore matters as much for its dispersion as for its refinement. Triangle has housed its 25 mm aluminum-magnesium dome, a light and rigid alloy already used in its anniversary ranges, in a redesigned horn based on a waveguide called OS-SEW. This geometry distributes high frequencies more evenly to the sides, so voices retain the same texture for a listener seated facing the screen as for their neighbor sitting off to one side. At the mouth of the horn, a “barrel”-shaped cutout fine-tunes the match with the midrange, and a one-piece injected phase plug further evens out dispersion. Behind the dome, an absorbing chamber and a neodymium magnet motor limit internal reflections and distortion.
Two cellulose pulp mid-bass drivers
On either side of the tweeter, two 16 cm drivers handle the midrange and upper bass. Their injected aluminum basket adopts an open arch shape, intended to remain neutral and let air pass through without turbulence, even at high volume. The diaphragm is made of natural cellulose pulp, a material Triangle has shaped since its beginnings for the way it reproduces voices with warmth. A redesigned rear-applied bonding process increases the diaphragm’s effective surface area and improves linearity of reproduction. This symmetrical layout, with two mid-bass drivers framing the treble, focuses energy toward the listening area and keeps dialogue firmly anchored at the center of the image.
Tonal consistency with the Solstice range
The decisive argument for a dedicated center speaker lies in its kinship with the front speakers. The C3 uses the same tweeter and 16 cm drivers as the Solstice 3 and Solstice 8, and its crossover cuts at 2.85 kHz, a hair away from the Solstice 3 bookshelf speaker’s 2.8 kHz, with the same slopes. Internal oxygen-free copper wiring and carefully selected crossover components, air-core inductors and polyester capacitors, complete that family resemblance. In practical terms, a sound moving from the front left speaker to the center, then to the front right, keeps the same character: dialogue following an actor crossing the screen does not change timbre along the way. Pairing the C3 with front speakers from another origin remains possible, but this continuity loosens as soon as the drivers differ.
Cabinetry that fades into the background
Placed under a screen, a center speaker often shares its support with the piece of furniture holding it, and the slightest cabinet vibration can blur the message. Triangle has worked on the cabinetry with high-density MDF panels, with rounded edges to limit diffraction at the borders. Inside, the DVAS system places an open brace in direct contact with the motor of each driver, via a damping material and a foam gasket: vibrations from the transducer are absorbed before reaching the panels. The 11.75 kg on the scale reflect this focus on inertia. At the rear, a simple high-conductivity terminal accepts the cable; it does not allow bi-wiring, reserved for the Solstice 8 in the range. All that remains is to find it a stable base: at 54 cm wide and with a base that brings the height to 23.5 cm, the center speaker requires a clear space under the television.
Its place in a home theater setup
In a multichannel system, the center speaker carries almost all dialogue and a good share of front effects; it is what locks voices to the screen, whatever seat is occupied in the room. The C3 supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks as well as older multichannel tracks, and remains the anchor point of the front soundstage as soon as height channels are added to envelop the listener. Its high sensitivity of 92 dB and easy impedance, a nominal 8 Ω that does not drop below 4.5 Ω, make it easy to drive: most audio-video amplifiers power it effortlessly. Ideally, it should be placed as close as possible to ear level, just below or above the image.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be paired with Triangle speakers from another range, such as Borea?
It’s electrically possible, but timbre matching is designed for the Solstice 3 and Solstice 8, with which the C3 shares the tweeter, drivers, and crossover tuning. With another range, the blend between the center channel and the front speakers becomes less seamless. For a consistent result, it’s best to stay within the Solstice series.
What finishes is the Solstice C3 available in?
Four shades: Ash Black, Teak, White and Birch, with the wood finishes featuring a vertical grain. Silicone rings surround the drivers, highlighted by a champagne-tinted aluminum trim ring, and the speaker comes with a magnetic grille matching its finish.
Does a sealed enclosure change anything about placement against a wall?
Without a port, the C3 copes better with being placed close to a wall than a rear-ported speaker, and there is no air outlet to keep clear behind it. A stable, low-resonance stand is nevertheless preferable to preserve bass clarity.
How much space should you allow in a TV stand?
Allow for 54 cm in width. With its stand, the center speaker measures 23.5 cm high and 31 cm deep; without the stand, it drops to 20.5 cm high and 30.5 cm deep. An open niche is preferable to a closed compartment, which would tend to color the bass.
Can the Solstice C3 be used as a surround speaker?
Its horizontal layout and tuning are intended for the front center channel, in front of the listener. Nothing prevents it from being used elsewhere, but its directivity is designed to project dialogue toward the listening area, not to spread side effects. For the rear channels, surround models remain better suited.
Is a subwoofer necessary?
At the upper end of the spectrum, the center speaker is sufficient on its own, but its sealed enclosure rolls off around 50 Hz. In a home theater setup, the low-frequency effects channel and the deepest bass are routed through a dedicated subwoofer anyway, which is strongly recommended to accompany the C3.
