Overview

The AVENTHO Y headphones already handle phone calls thanks to their two built-in microphones, but they use Bluetooth, with the slight delay this causes when watching a video or gaming. This kit adds two components to the headphones: a small USB-C dongle that establishes a low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless connection, and a detachable microphone on a flexible boom. The headphones then become a headset for video calls, voice chat or voice recording.

A 2.4 GHz connection to keep sound in sync with the picture

With Bluetooth, sound is compressed and then buffered before reaching your ears. This delay goes unnoticed with music, but becomes apparent whenever you need to follow an image: lips move slightly before the voice, or you hear a gunshot after seeing it on screen. The kit’s dongle does not use Bluetooth. Plugged into a computer’s USB-C port, it establishes a dedicated, stable, low-latency radio connection with the headphones in the 2.4 GHz band, without a complicated setup. The beyerdynamic app already offers a low-latency Bluetooth mode, whereas the dongle bypasses Bluetooth entirely for a connection dedicated to the headphones.

The dongle stores inside the headphones. A compartment inside one earcup protects it during travel, so you won’t have to search for it at the bottom of a bag. It connects via USB-C only: a computer with only USB-A ports will need an adapter.

A boom microphone positioned in front of the mouth

The AVENTHO Y’s two built-in microphones, assisted by ENC noise reduction, are sufficient for a phone call. However, they remain in the earcups, far from the mouth, and rely on digital processing to isolate the voice. The kit’s META VOICE microphone places the capsule close to the mouth. The closer it is, the more the voice stands out over room noise, keyboard clatter or the computer fan. The flexible boom bends to find the right position, in front of the mouth or slightly to the side to reduce breath noise.

As it is detachable, the microphone can be removed when taking the headphones on a train journey or listening to music. The AVENTHO Y then returns to its portable headphone look, and its built-in microphones are sufficient for calls.

Four colours to match each version of the headphones

The kit comes in the headphones’ four shades: Liquid Black, Blue Fusion, Peach Blush and Soft Jade. The microphone matches the chosen colour, so simply choose the same variant as your headphones. The kit works only with the AVENTHO Y.

Everyday video calls, voice chat and voice-overs

A video meeting on a laptop illustrates the kit’s benefits well: with the boom positioned in front of the mouth, the meeting’s sound goes through the dongle, and the other participants hear a clear voice rather than the surrounding room. The same setup works for an online game with voice chat, where the sound stays in sync with the action, or for recording a voice-over for a video or a simple podcast. Beyerdynamic describes it as casual gaming, and the term is apt. The AVENTHO Y remains an everyday pair of closed-back headphones, with its 45 mm dynamic drivers and sound settings in the app. The kit adds a microphone and a fast connection, but does not turn it into a competitive gaming headset.

Frequently asked questions

Does the kit include the AVENTHO Y headphones?

No. The kit includes the USB-C dongle and the detachable boom microphone. The headset is sold separately.

Does the kit work with other Beyerdynamic headphones, such as the AVENTHO 300 or MMX headsets?

No, it only works with the AVENTHO Y. Other models in the AVENTHO range and the brand’s gaming headsets do not have a connection compatible with this dongle.

Do I need to install software or pair the dongle?

The dongle plugs directly into the USB-C port and connects to the headphones without any complicated setup. The beyerdynamic app remains useful for headphone updates and equalizer settings.

Where should I store the dongle when it's not in use?

In the compartment built into one of the headset’s earcups. This way, it stays with the headset on the go and won’t be left behind on a desk.

What happens to calls when the microphone is removed?

The headset switches back to its two built-in microphones with ENC noise reduction, which are sufficient for a call or video call over Bluetooth from a smartphone. The boom microphone picks up your voice better in noisy environments or when voice quality matters, for example when recording.

Does the kit change the sound of the headphones?

No. The kit affects transmission and voice pickup, not the headphones themselves: the sound remains that of the 45 mm drivers, with the app’s presets and equalizer. The dongle’s low latency mainly benefits uses involving video, such as movies, games, or video calls.
