The ARC automatic calibration has been revised

It quickly and efficiently optimizes the sound to provide a unique listening experience in a given space. Anthem’s engineers developed ARC with the goal of reproducing the performance obtained in labs within a standard environment. The study was conducted in conjunction with the Canadian National Research Council and the Department of Research of Canada. The Anthem team realized that the listening experience in a home environment had little in common with that of a testing lab. Even the best speakers are affected by room anomalies, particularly furniture. These obstacles create waves and resonances whose reflections color the sound we hear. Imagine the sound waves coming from your speakers and bouncing off a liquid surface. This image of rippling water will help you visualize the sound waves produced by the multiple reflections off all the obstacles encountered in a listening room. You will therefore understand the benefit of removing obstacles, which is where ARC comes in. Once the listening room is treated, the digital signature resembles that of our laboratories. Our system measures the response of each speaker in its listening environment. It then uses an elaborate algorithm to remove the negative effects of room obstacles by adjusting the response and correcting the phase. ARC also measures how the room reinforces low frequencies due to its boundaries and the acoustic pressure it generates. ARC detects at what level of low-frequency response the speaker starts to decrease and adjusts the high-pass filter accordingly. It thus delivers a more natural and less colored level of sound depth in the lower spectrum. In conclusion, ARC operates instantly and automatically to offer a listening experience in a typical room that comes as close as possible to that obtained in design laboratories.
