Each year, dozens of European journalists gather to select the best electronic products of the year. Awarded by a diverse and impartial jury, the EISA (Expert Imaging and Sound Association) awards recognize exceptional products for their performance, design, or ergonomics.
The iF Design Awards, created in 1953, represent one of the world's leading design competitions. Each year, it attracts over 1,800 participants from 30 different countries. The jury, composed of globally renowned designers, not only examines and selects the chosen products but also adheres to stringent requirements to maintain a high-quality label.
The XGIMI Aura 2 projector offers a remarkable visual experience thanks to its DLP projection technology. With a native 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), it delivers ultra-detailed and sharp images. The impressive brightness of 2300 ISO lumens, achieved through Dual Light 2.0 technology combining laser and LED, allows for vibrant images even in slightly lit environments.
The Aura 2 supports a wide range of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced, and HDR10, for images with rich, natural colors and striking contrasts. It covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space, ensuring cinematic color fidelity. With a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, deep blacks and bright whites provide a great sense of relief and depth to the image.
On the audio front, the Aura 2 impresses with its four integrated Harman Kardon speakers totaling 60W of power. Compatible with Dolby Atmos spatial audio format, they envelop the viewer in rich, precise, and immersive sound. Dialogues are clear and intelligible, sound effects are impactful and realistic, and the bass is deep and controlled. This high-end audio equipment eliminates the need to invest in an additional soundbar or home theater system.
Thanks to its ultra short throw optics with a projection ratio of just 0.177:1, the Aura 2 generates a very large image with minimal distance. It projects a 100-inch diagonal image from just 17.8 cm away from the wall! This greatly facilitates its integration into an interior and avoids the need to install a projector on the ceiling. Compact with dimensions of 53 x 27 x 13.3 cm and a weight of 9 kg, it easily fits on a piece of furniture.
The Aura 2 can generate an image ranging from 80 to 150 inches diagonally, allowing for true home cinema conditions. A motorized shutter protection system preserves the lens from dust when the device is turned off.
The Aura 2 includes numerous features for a simplified user experience. The ISA 5.0 (Intelligent Screen Adaptation) technology automatically adjusts the geometry and sharpness of the image based on the environment, for an always optimal result even if the projection surface is not perfectly flat.
Real-time automatic keystone correction eliminates image distortions without manual intervention. Autofocus detects obstacles like a person passing in front of the lens and adjusts the focus accordingly. Finally, a ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensor analyzes the environment and automatically adjusts the brightness for better visual comfort.
The Aura 2 is powered by Android TV 11, offering an intuitive Smart TV experience with access to thousands of entertainment apps via the Google Play Store. Major streaming platforms are available, such as YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, etc. Only Netflix is not directly accessible and requires a workaround.
The device features 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, expandable via USB port. Connectivity includes three HDMI ports, one of which is eARC compatible, three USB ports, an optical digital audio output, and an Ethernet port. Wireless connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The projector is also Chromecast compatible for easy content streaming from a smartphone or tablet.
With its clean lines and fabric covering, the Aura 2 boasts a decidedly modern and elegant look that harmoniously fits into any interior. When not in use, it remains discreet and can even serve as a decorative element thanks to its art gallery mode that displays famous works. The provided backlit remote control allows for easy operation in the dark.
With an input lag reduced to 18.3 ms in game mode, the Aura 2 will delight the most demanding gamers by providing optimal responsiveness for lag-free gaming sessions. HDMI 2.1 compatibility with variable refresh rate (VRR) ensures perfect smoothness, without stuttering or screen tearing.
Movie enthusiasts will appreciate the support for major HDR video formats as well as the Filmmaker Mode certification, which respects the directors’ original intent. The MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation) technology inserts frames to compensate for motion blur and achieve perfect smoothness, even on 24p sources.
Beyond its performance, the Aura 2 stands out with its exclusive Art mode. Thanks to the “XGIMI Wall” app, it can transform any wall into an art gallery or ambient backdrop. This original feature allows the projector to integrate seamlessly into your decor, making it a true decorative object when not in use.
Moreover, with its integrated millimeter-wave radar, the Aura 2 detects human presence and makes the wallpaper interactive when you approach it closely. A playful and creative way to bring your interior to life.
What is the lifespan of the light source?
The Aura 2’s Dual Light 2.0 technology, combining laser and LED, offers an estimated lifespan of 25,000 hours. This represents nearly 10 years of use at 7 hours per day.
Does the Aura 2 require a dedicated projection screen?
While the Aura 2 can project onto any flat surface, using a dedicated ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) screen is recommended for optimal results, especially in very bright rooms. XGIMI offers a range of Fresnel ALR screens specifically designed for the Aura 2, but it is also possible to use screens from other brands compatible with UST projectors.
What are the main differences between the Aura 2 and its predecessor?
Compared to the original model, the Aura 2 brings several significant improvements, including a redesigned, more compact and elegant design, as well as increased brightness (2300 ISO lumens versus 1800 lumens) thanks to Dual Light 2.0 technology. It also offers better coverage of the DCI-P3 color space (99% versus 80%), compatibility with Dolby Vision, and a larger maximum image size (150 inches versus 120 inches). Finally, the Aura 2 incorporates new smart features, such as Art Mode and presence detection via millimeter-wave radar.
Is the Aura 2 3D compatible?
Yes, the XGIMI Aura 2 projector is 3D compatible. It can render 3D content from 3D Blu-ray sources or 3D video files in Side-by-Side or Top-and-Bottom formats. The use of DLP Link 3D glasses is required.
What is the noise level of the Aura 2 in operation?
Thanks to an optimized cooling system, the Aura 2 generates a low noise level of only 32 dB in standard mode, making it particularly discreet and non-intrusive, even in a medium-sized room.
Like its predecessor, the Aura 2 sometimes prioritizes exuberance over naturalism a bit too much for us to recommend it without reservation. Its smart Android system also lacks key applications. Nevertheless, it remains very pleasant to look at, and the exceptionally impressive way it adapts to the room's light and dark conditions makes it so consistently usable that it ends up being considered excellent value for money.
