Frequently Asked Questions

Can the AV 30 directly drive speakers without an external amplifier?

No, the AV 30 is a preamplifier/processor with no built-in power amplification. It requires one or more power amplifiers to drive the speakers. This architecture lets you freely choose the power and brand of amplification according to system requirements and the sensitivity of the speakers used.

What speaker configurations are possible with 11.4-channel processing?

The 11.4 channels support a variety of configurations up to 7.4.4 (seven ear-level speakers, four subwoofers, four height speakers), depending on requirements. The choice between rear surrounds, side surrounds, front height or in-ceiling speakers is made in the setup menu according to the physical installation.

Is the supplied Audyssey microphone compatible with Dirac Live?

No, the two systems use different microphones. The supplied Audyssey microphone works only with MultEQ XT32. Using Dirac Live requires the separate purchase of a compatible calibrated microphone (such as the miniDSP UMIK-1), whose individual calibration file ensures measurement accuracy.

Does the AV 30 support MC (moving coil) phono cartridges?

The integrated phono input is designed for MM (moving magnet) cartridges only. MC cartridges, which have a lower output level, require a suitable external phono preamp or a step-up transformer. This external source is then connected to one of the AV 30’s line inputs.
