Overview

With a 210 mm woofer and a pivoting tweeter in a coaxial configuration, the Inceiling 885 is the 8-inch model in Canton’s in‑ceiling speaker range. The 800 series stands out with its full aluminium diaphragms and magnetic grilles, two technical choices that place it a step above the Classic series. Canton offers here a passive speaker with a standard impedance (8 ohms), which can also be switched to 100 V line mode for professional installations.

A coaxial configuration that simplifies installation

The 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter is mounted in the centre of the woofer, creating a single point source. The result: the sound doesn’t “split” depending on the listening angle, a valuable advantage when the speaker is radiating from the ceiling towards an area where listeners are moving around. The tweeter pivots on its axis and can be aimed in the desired direction, which helps compensate for off-centre placement or direct the highs towards a specific point in the room.

A three-position selector adjusts the treble level. This function compensates for acoustic variations depending on the environment: a high, absorbent ceiling doesn’t have the same needs as a more reverberant space.

Dual aluminium diaphragms for dynamics and precision

Canton equips the Inceiling 885 with both a woofer and a tweeter featuring aluminium diaphragms. This material, stiffer than the polypropylene used on entry-level models, improves transient response and reduces distortion at high levels. The 210 mm woofer (about 8 inches) operates in a bass-reflex enclosure, allowing it to go down to 42 Hz, a solid figure for a speaker of this size. The upper range extends to 40 kHz on the treble side.

Continuous power handling reaches 90 W, with peak capacity up to 160 W. This is enough to drive the speaker with most home cinema amplifiers or multiroom systems without risk of clipping.

Discreet integration into the ceiling

The Inceiling 885 has an external diameter of 28.5 cm, requires a 24 cm cut-out, and a mounting depth of 9 cm. The maximum ceiling thickness is 4 cm, which covers standard plasterboard (single or double layer) but excludes some thicker technical suspended ceilings.

The metal grille is held in place magnetically, with no visible clips or screws. It can be painted to blend into the ceiling or, on the contrary, finished in a contrasting colour. Canton supplies a cutting template to make marking out easier. The CFB Flex Bracket accessory (sold separately) acts as a placeholder during construction, before the plasterboard is installed: electricians can then run the cables to the right spot without the speaker being in place yet.

Easy wiring with Easy-Link terminals

The Easy-Link connectors accept bare wire or suitable plugs, with a clamping system that ensures a stable long-term contact. For daisy-chain setups, running from one speaker to the next remains straightforward. The 100 V / 8 ohm switch is located under the grille: in 100 V mode, the speaker can be connected to an ELA line with transformer, typical of commercial installations or public spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Inceiling 885 be used with a Dolby Atmos system?

Yes. Mounted in the ceiling, it serves as a height channel speaker in a 5.1.2 Atmos configuration or higher. The tweeter’s adjustability allows you to aim the highs towards the main listening area.

Which amplifier should I choose for this speaker?

An amplifier delivering between 30 and 90 W into 8 ohms is suitable. Modern AV receivers generally provide sufficient power. In 100 V mode, a dedicated ELA line amplifier is required.

Can the grille be painted without removing it?

Canton recommends removing the grille before painting to avoid overspray on the drivers. The magnetic mounting makes this a quick operation.

What’s the difference between the Inceiling 885 and the Inceiling 865?

The Inceiling 865 uses a 165 mm (6.5-inch) woofer, versus 210 mm for the 885. The larger model reaches lower frequencies (42 Hz versus 45 Hz) and handles more power.

Is the speaker suitable for humid environments such as a bathroom?

Canton does not rate this model as moisture-resistant. For wet rooms, the Pro series, designed for more demanding environments, is a better choice.

Can the Inceiling 885 be combined with other models in the range?

Yes. The Inceiling 845 (5 inches) or Inceiling 865 (6.5 inches) can be used as secondary speakers in smaller rooms, while maintaining consistent sound thanks to the same aluminium diaphragm technology.
