Integra 8500DSP
Overview
Eight channels, 500 watts each into 4 ohms, built-in DSP processing, and the ability to drive both low-impedance residential speakers and 70/100 V lines in commercial installations. The Integra 8500DSP is the most powerful model in the Professional Amplifier series, launched in September 2025 at the CEDIA trade show. Integra developed it in consultation with integrators, and it shows in every design choice.
Eight channels, two impedance approaches
The 8500DSP operates in Class D and features a hybrid low-impedance / high-impedance topology that allows it to cover a very broad range of installations. In single-ended mode, each channel delivers 500 W into 4 ohms or 250 W into 8 ohms. In BTL bridging mode (Bridged Tied Load), two channels combine to provide up to 1,000 W, a mode available both into 4/8 ohms and on 70 V and 100 V lines.
This versatility has a practical benefit: the same amplifier can power high-fidelity in-ceiling speakers in a hotel’s living spaces and, at the same time, distribute sound over constant-voltage lines in hallways or common areas. No need to stack two different amplification technologies in the rack.
One point worth noting: Wi-Fi is limited to 2.4 GHz. In an equipment room already saturated with wireless signals, an Ethernet connection (LAN port) will remain the most reliable choice for network connectivity.
Built-in DSP that replaces an external processor
The “DSP” suffix is not a marketing argument. The amplifier includes a digital signal processor that handles parametric EQ, crossover filters, limiters, compressors, and delay management. In a typical installation, these functions require a dedicated external processor. Here, they are accessible directly from the amplifier’s configuration interface, which reduces the number of devices in the rack and simplifies cabling.
The DSP also includes presets developed with Klipsch engineers for their installation speakers (CI range). Knowing that Integra and Klipsch belong to the same group (Premium Audio Company), this collaboration is not surprising, but it offers a real practical advantage: the EQ curves, limiting thresholds, and compression parameters are factory-set for each compatible speaker model. The installer loads the preset, adjusts if necessary, and the system is ready to go.
For speakers from other brands, configuration remains manual via the DSP, which requires a bit more time and acoustic knowledge.
Connectivity designed for the field
The rear panel uses a white background with black labeling, a detail that makes connections easier to identify in a dimly lit equipment rack. Speaker outputs use screw-terminal Phoenix connectors, a standard in professional installation that ensures reliable, removable contact without soldering.
On the input side, the 8500DSP offers four analog RCA inputs (unbalanced) and one coaxial digital input, all equipped with automatic signal detection (Auto Sensing). The built-in digital-to-analog converter operates at 24 bits / 48 kHz. A coaxial digital output also allows a second device to be daisy-chained. The choice of RCA connectors rather than balanced XLR clearly positions the unit toward residential or semi-professional sources: preamplifiers, AV processors, or network players. For integration into a studio or broadcast environment with long-distance balanced connections, adapters or a format converter will be required.
Remote configuration and multi-zone control
All configuration of the 8500DSP is handled through a web interface accessible from a browser via the local network (wired or Wi-Fi). The installer can adjust inputs, zones, output levels, DSP parameters, and backup settings there without needing proprietary software installed on a dedicated workstation.
For everyday control, Integra optionally offers the ZC1, a PoE-powered (Power over Ethernet) wall controller. Available in black or white, it syncs with the amplifier in real time and provides access to essential functions (volume, source selection, zone navigation) behind a four-digit PIN code. Each 8500DSP supports up to eight ZC1 controllers, enough to cover an entire building with one control point per zone.
Integration with home automation and control systems is ensured by drivers for Q-SYS, Crestron, Control4, RTI, AMX, Symetrix, Elan, and URC. The amplifier is configured via Intuitive Control SW software, a tool specific to the Professional Amplifier series.
Rack format and active cooling
The chassis occupies 2U in a 19-inch rack (88 mm high), with a width of 440 mm and a depth of 414 mm. The 11.6 kg weight remains reasonable for an amplifier of this power. The rack-mount kit is included.
Cooling works through front intake and rear exhaust. This front-to-back airflow is compatible with equipment racks ventilated at the front, the most common setup in installations. With 4,000 watts total available in BTL, active ventilation is obviously called upon under heavy load. Integra does not specify the fan activation threshold or noise level, information that would be useful for installations where the amplifier cannot be isolated in a closed equipment room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 8500DSP power standard home speakers in 4 or 8 ohms?
Yes. Each channel operates natively in 4 or 8 ohms. The 70/100 V mode is a configuration option, not the default operation. The amplifier is equally suited to residential in-wall/in-ceiling speakers and distributed loudspeaker line systems.
How many audio zones can be created with a single 8500DSP?
In single-ended mode (8 independent channels), up to eight mono zones or four stereo zones. In BTL bridging mode, the number of available channels drops to four, giving four mono zones or two stereo zones with doubled power.
Is the ZC1 wall controller essential?
No. All configuration and control are accessible through the web interface from a browser. The ZC1 is an optional add-on that provides a physical control point in each room or zone, practical for users who do not want to use a smartphone or tablet.
Can the amplifier be controlled by a third-party home automation system?
Yes. Drivers are available for Crestron, Control4, Q-SYS, RTI, AMX, Symetrix, Elan, and URC. These drivers can be downloaded from the Integra website.
Does the 8500DSP have balanced inputs (XLR or euroblock)?
No. The analog inputs are unbalanced RCA. To connect professional sources over balanced links, an adapter or conversion box will be necessary.
Can multiple amplifiers from the Professional Amplifier series be combined in the same installation?
Are the speaker presets limited to Klipsch models?
The factory-integrated presets apply to Klipsch installation speakers (CI range). For any other brand, configuration is done manually via the amplifier’s DSP tools (EQ, limiter, compressor, delay).
