Projeo Frame ALR UST 120
Overview
A 117-inch diagonal screen, an ALR screen fabric with a micro-lenticular structure, a fixed 3 cm-thick aluminum frame, and 10 mm borders: the Projeo Frame ALR UST 120 is aimed at ultra-short-throw projector setups in living spaces where ambient light remains a recurring problem. The objective is clear: project a 260 x 146 cm image without having to draw the curtains.
How the ALR PET UST screen fabric works
The Frame ALR UST 120 screen fabric is based on PET technology with a micro-lenticular structure. The principle: micro-reliefs formed in the material capture the light emitted by the projector placed below and redirect it toward viewers, while stray light coming from the ceiling (the main source of light pollution in a living room) is absorbed by the upper side of these micro-reliefs. This directional filtering is why these screens carry the ALR designation (Ambient Light Rejection).
The stated gain is 1.8, a high value for a lenticular-type screen fabric. A gain greater than 1 means the screen reflects more light toward the central axis than a reference white surface, which results in a brighter image when viewed head-on. The usual trade-off of high gain is a loss of brightness for viewers seated off-axis: here, the 120° directivity limits this effect and covers a reasonable viewing angle for home use.
Important technical point: the screen fabric is designed to receive light from below. The projector must be placed under the screen (on a cabinet, for example). Any projection from the ceiling or from above the screen degrades the visual rendering, because the micro-reliefs no longer filter ambient light correctly and no longer redirect the light flux in the right direction.
Structure and integration into a living room
The frame is made of black lacquered aluminum alloy, with a black velvet finish on the borders. The velvet absorbs stray light reflections around the image and visually enhances the perception of contrast, a classic choice on fixed screens in this category. The frame edges extend only 10 mm around the usable surface, making the frame discreet once the screen is mounted on the wall.
The screen is wall-mounted with screws. This is a permanent installation: once assembled, the screen stays in place. This is an advantage in terms of screen tension (no roll-up mechanism likely to create ripples) but a commitment in terms of layout, since the 262 x 148 cm frame occupies a significant portion of the wall. For reference, that is roughly the size of a large landscape-format painting. The screen fabric is secured with a clip system.
Actual diagonal and commercial naming
The “120” reference in the product name corresponds to a rounded commercial designation. The actual diagonal of the usable surface is 117 inches (about 297 cm), for a 260 x 146.2 cm image in 16:9 format. This rounding practice is common in the projection screen sector. The smaller model in the range, the Frame ALR UST 100, has an actual diagonal of 100 inches for a 221.4 x 124.5 cm image.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the screen work with a ceiling-mounted projector?
No. The micro-lenticular structure of the screen fabric is optimized for a projector placed below the screen, at TV stand level. Projection from the ceiling reverses the way the micro-reliefs work: the projector’s light would be absorbed instead of being redirected toward viewers, and stray ambient light would no longer be filtered.
What is the difference between a gain of 1.8 and a gain of 0.6 or 0.8?
Gain measures the screen fabric’s ability to concentrate light toward the viewing axis. A gain of 1.8 produces a clearly brighter image when viewed head-on than a screen fabric with a gain of 0.6 or 0.8. In return, brightness drops off more quickly as you move away from the central axis. The choice depends on the room configuration: a living room where viewers are grouped in front of the screen takes full advantage of high gain.
Is the screen fabric sensitive to scratches or physical contact?
PET micro-lenticular screen fabrics are fragile on the surface. It is not recommended to touch the screen fabric, clean it with an abrasive cloth, or let children access it without precautions. Light dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, without pressing, is the recommended maintenance method for this type of surface.
Is the screen suitable for a completely dark room?
Yes, but the high 1.8 gain is especially advantageous in partially lit rooms, where ALR technology filters ambient light. In a dedicated room that is completely dark, a classic matte white screen (gain 1.0) offers more neutral colors and a wider viewing angle. An ALR screen makes the most sense when there is light to reject.
Can this screen be used for presentations (slideshows, charts)?
ALR UST screens with a lenticular structure are optimized for video content (movies, series, video games). Gray surfaces can alter the rendering of pure whites and pastel colors, making data projection (black text on a white background, graphics) less readable than with a standard white screen.
Is the Frame ALR UST 120 available in other sizes?
The Frame ALR UST range includes two models: the 100 (actual diagonal of 100 inches, 221.4 x 124.5 cm image) and the 120 (actual diagonal of 117 inches, 260 x 146.2 cm image). Both share the same screen fabric, the same aluminum frame, and the same 10 mm borders.
