Loewe Vega 43
Overview
In a segment where 43-inch diagonals often make do with a pared-down technical feature set, the German manufacturer is back with a high-end proposition in a compact format. Successor to the Callas 43, the Vega 43 drops Edge LED backlighting in favor of Direct LED Full Array with 390 dimming zones, while retaining the integrated front soundbar. Manufacturing remains based in Kronach, Bavaria.
German manufacturing in a compact format
The chassis combines a brushed aluminum frame with a metal acoustic grille running across the full width of the television. Depth without the stand comes down to 7.8 cm, making close wall mounting easier via the 200 x 200 mm VESA mount. Cable management is integrated into the back of the screen, and the supplied chrome tabletop stand swivels plus or minus 45 degrees to redirect the panel toward the sofa without moving the furniture. The brand also offers its own wall mounts and floor stands for those who want to extend the overall aesthetic language.
With its stand, the screen measures 96.8 cm wide by 62.8 cm high and weighs 13.7 kg. Without the stand, the weight drops to 11.3 kg for a height of 58.9 cm.
A VA panel and 390 Direct LED zones
The panel is an Ultra HD 4K (3840 x 2160) VA LCD type, with Direct LED Full Array backlighting controlled across 390 dimming zones. The stated peak brightness reaches 880 cd/m², a comfortable level for a screen of this size and one that leaves some headroom in bright rooms as well as for HDR highlights. The semi-matte finish reduces direct reflections without the diffuse haze of some fully matte panels.
The choice of a VA panel favors native contrast and black depth, at the cost of narrower viewing angles than an IPS panel, even though Loewe specifies 178 degrees. Wide Color Gamut technology broadens the color space, and all major HDR formats are supported: HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Vision IQ, the latter adjusting rendering according to ambient light measured by the integrated sensor.
On the processing side, the television applies upscaling to Ultra HD for lower-definition sources and uses AI-based picture optimization (AI PQ) that acts on sharpness, color balance, and motion handling. A 24p compatibility mode reproduces cinema’s native frame rate.
An integrated front soundbar
Below the panel, four bass-reflex-loaded speakers form a front soundbar that projects sound directly toward the listener. RMS power is 2 x 15 W, music power is 2 x 30 W, with Class D amplification. Decoding covers Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-HD. In the absence of upward-firing speakers, Atmos spatialization relies on digital processing: the sense of height is suggested rather than physically reproduced, but the wider soundstage and improved dialogue intelligibility more than make up for it compared with similarly sized televisions without an integrated soundbar.
AI audio optimization (AI AQ) adjusts settings according to the content, and the Dynamic Loudness function smooths volume differences between programs and commercials. For those who want to step up another level, the HDMI eARC output makes it possible to connect a soundbar or home theater amplifier without losing centralized control via the Loewe remote.
Loewe OS and streaming services
The Loewe OS system, platform version SL8 and based on Vidaa, manages the interface and apps. The interface is available in 34 languages and provides access to the main platforms: Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, Deezer, as well as Zattoo and Magenta TV for German-speaking markets. The app store complements this foundation, while the internet browser and DLNA media player handle playback of content stored on the local network.
VIDAA Voice voice control responds to the main commands, and Apple AirPlay provides screen sharing from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Matter compatibility opens the door to integration into a standardized smart home ecosystem, in addition to Wake-on-LAN and Wake-on-WiFi for remote wake-up. On the tuner side, the dual triple tuner handles DVB-T2 HD, DVB-C, and DVB-S2 with DiSEqC and Unicable, while HEVC H.265 decoding and H.266 compatibility lay the groundwork for future terrestrial and satellite Ultra HD broadcasts. Storage goes up to 10,000 channels, and HD+ is supported for the German market.
Recording to a USB hard drive is possible, with multi-recording and Timeshift. Dual Channel technology makes it possible to record one channel while watching another live, a convenience rarely found on televisions of this size.
Four HDMI ports, including two 2.1
Video connectivity includes two HDMI 2.1 ports and two HDMI 2.0b ports. The two 2.1 inputs support 4K at 120 Hz, VRR (variable refresh rate), and ALLM (auto low latency mode), enough to make full use of a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X in good conditions. eARC output, HDMI-CEC, and HDCP 2.3 round out the package. For additional peripherals, one USB-A port and one USB-C port are available, along with an optical Toslink output, a variable audio output, and a 3.5 mm subwoofer output useful for adding an active subwoofer.
On the wireless side, the television integrates Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wired Ethernet, with Miracast for streaming from an Android or Windows device. The CI+ 1.4 ECP slot accommodates a module for encrypted channel packages.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference with the Loewe Callas 43?
The Callas 43 relied on Edge LED backlighting, where the diodes are placed along the edges of the panel. The Vega 43 switches to Direct LED Full Array backlighting controlled across 390 independent dimming zones. The improvement is reflected in black depth, blooming control, and the precision of local contrast in HDR. Peak luminance rises to 880 cd/m², and HDMI 2.1 connectivity also improves.
Is the television suitable for gaming on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?
Both HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K signals at 120 Hz, as well as VRR to reduce tearing and ALLM, which automatically switches to low-latency mode. The panel’s stated response time is 6 ms. Casual and regular gamers alike will find plenty to like here, keeping in mind that the integrated soundbar benefits from being complemented for action-packed games where spatial audio really matters.
Is the built-in soundbar enough for home theater?
For everyday use and the majority of content, the front bar delivers clear sound, well-defined dialogue, and a wider soundstage. On Dolby Atmos action movies, the vertical effect remains simulated through digital processing and does not replace a true 5.1.2 setup or a dedicated soundbar with upfiring speakers. The HDMI eARC output makes it easy to connect an external audio system when the time comes.
What is Matter compatibility used for?
Matter is an open home automation standard supported by Apple, Google, Amazon, and the Connectivity Standards Alliance. Its support makes it possible to integrate the TV into a unified home automation ecosystem, where it can communicate with connected lighting, smart plugs, or home automation hubs without depending on a single manufacturer. The promise is long-lasting interoperability between brands.
What is the range of motion of the swivel stand?
The chrome table stand supplied with the television swivels approximately 45 degrees in either direction, for a total range of 90 degrees. This adjustment makes it possible to reorient the screen toward different areas of the room without moving the furniture, which is useful in a living space where viewing positions vary between the sofa, the dining table, or the open kitchen area.
