Lumene Coliseum Silent Extra Bright LT 200C
Lumene Coliseum Silent Extra Bright LT: motorized ALR screens for long-throw projectors
In a living room, a lamp left on or light-colored walls are enough to reflect light onto the screen and wash out the projected image. The Coliseum Silent Extra Bright LT range addresses this with a gray screen surface that rejects stray light, tensioned within a motorized housing that mounts on a wall or ceiling. Its six 16:9 sizes range from 92 to 180 inches diagonally, for a projector installed some distance from the screen.
A gray screen surface that filters out unwanted light
A conventional white screen reflects everything that reaches it, from the projector beam to the room lighting, so the blacks in the image never get darker than the ambient light allows. The Extra Bright LT’s ALR surface (Ambient Light Rejecting) is matte gray: it reflects light arriving from the front toward viewers while rejecting light from other directions. More than 85% of stray light is rejected. Blacks retain their depth and colors their richness when the room is partly lit, with 99% color accuracy.
Gray usually comes at the cost of brightness. With a gain of 1.2, this screen instead reflects slightly more light than a reference matte white surface (gain 1.0), so the image retains its brightness with the same projector. The 140° viewing angle leaves plenty of room for seats to the side: someone sitting at the end of the sofa remains within the screen’s viewing cone. The surface is 4K-compatible and treated to resist yellowing, dust, and warping. Black borders frame the image and conceal minor spillover from the beam, while the light-blocking white backing prevents light from a window or lamp behind the screen from passing through it.
A projector set back, never right against the wall
LT stands for Long Throw. An ALR screen is optimized for light arriving at a specific angle, and this one is designed for the beam from a projector facing it several meters away, mounted on the ceiling or placed on furniture at the back of the room. Short-throw and ultra-short-throw models, which project upward from below at a steep angle, are not compatible: the light rejection would work against their own beam. Before choosing a screen size, check the projector’s throw ratio (listed in its specifications) to determine the required distance.
Six screen sizes, two housing sizes
The first four sizes share a type B housing with a 14 × 14 cm cross-section, slim black borders of 2.7 cm on the sides and 3.5 cm at the bottom. The 350C and 400C use a larger type A housing with a 19 × 19 cm cross-section and borders of 8 cm on the sides and 5 cm at the bottom; their weight triples to more than 50 kg. Every version has a 40 cm top black border (extra drop), which brings the image down to eye level when the housing is mounted high up. The housing is 20 cm (type B) to 36 cm (type A) wider than the image, something to bear in mind for a narrow wall or recess.
| Model | Diagonal | Viewable image (W × H) | Housing (W × H × D) | Net weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200C | 92 inches (234 cm) | 203 × 115 cm | B: 223 × 14 × 14 cm | 15.9 kg |
| 240C | 106 inches (269 cm) | 234 × 132 cm | B: 254 × 14 × 14 cm | 18.9 kg |
| 270C | 120 inches (305 cm) | 266 × 149 cm | B: 286 × 14 × 14 cm | 20.4 kg |
| 300C | 133 inches (338 cm) | 294 × 166 cm | B: 316 × 14 × 14 cm | 24 kg |
| 350C | 158 inches (401 cm) | 350 × 197 cm | A: 386 × 19 × 19 cm | 53 kg |
| 400C | 180 inches (457 cm) | 399 × 224 cm | A: 435 × 19 × 19 cm | 58 kg |
Side tensioning and a quiet motor
A basic retractable screen tends to ripple at the sides, and an ALR surface handles those ripples poorly: they deflect light and create darker areas. Here, a side-tensioning system keeps the screen flat along its full height when deployed.
The screen is lowered by the 20 W DC motor used in the Silent generation. It operates below 50 dB and is rated for more than 20,000 cycles, equivalent to over fifty years at one viewing session per day. Its S-curve control starts and slows the screen gently rather than moving it at full speed from the outset, making operation smoother and reducing strain on the screen. The upper and lower stop positions can be adjusted precisely and electronically, so the image position suits the room rather than a factory preset.
Controls and home automation integration
The supplied remote control works via infrared and 433 MHz radio frequency; radio control does not require a direct line of sight, which is useful when the housing is hidden by a false ceiling or cornice. It provides fine position adjustment, and a manual switch (up, stop, down) is also available on the screen. For automated installations, the screen supports RS232 and RS485 home automation systems, dry contacts, and a 12 V trigger: connected to a projector’s trigger output, the screen lowers when the projector turns on and retracts when it turns off.
A sealed housing, wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted or suspended
The white-painted aluminum housing is sealed and has a dedicated ground connection that dissipates static electricity generated as the screen moves. This helps prevent dust from being attracted to the surface and protects the electronics. Installation uses new L-shaped brackets, slimmer and sturdier than those of previous generations, and a clip system for attaching the housing. Supplied hooks also allow it to be suspended from a high ceiling. For the 350C and 400C, the mounting surface must support a load close to 60 kg.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which screen size is right for my projector?
Throw distance is calculated by multiplying the image width by the projector’s throw ratio. With a ratio of 1.5:1, the 270C’s 266 cm width requires about 4 m between the lens and the screen. If the projector has a zoom lens, the range of ratios specified by its manufacturer gives a range of possible distances.
Can this screen be used with an ultra-short-throw projector?
No, the Extra Bright LT screen is designed for long-throw projectors. Lumene offers ALR screens specifically for ultra-short-throw projectors in other ranges, such as the UST version of the Eden Extra Bright.
How high will the image be with a ceiling-mounted housing?
Add together the height of the housing, the 40 cm extra drop, and the image height. For a 240C under a 2.50 m ceiling, the bottom of the image is about 64 cm above the floor, and the lower border extends about 3.5 cm below that. The electronic stops allow you to adjust the final position within the limit set by the upper border.
Do you still need to darken the room to watch a movie?
The screen tolerates ambient light that would ruin the image on a white surface, but it cannot turn a sunlit living room into a darkened theater. Soft light, preferably from the side or behind the viewers, lets the screen perform well; a bright light source directly facing the screen should still be avoided.
Do CinemaScope films fill the entire screen?
All models in the range have a 16:9 aspect ratio. A film in 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 displays with black bars at the top and bottom, projected onto the screen; its gray color makes them less noticeable than on a white screen.
