Oray ONE 2 seats
Oray ONE 2-seater, wall-hugging cinema seating row
Installing a row of reclining seats in an average-sized room often runs into the same constraint: the clearance needed behind the backrests. This two-seat Oray row can be pushed against the wall, as each motorised seat extends forwards rather than backwards. The French manufacturer, based in Dourdan, upholsters it in highly durable polyester velvet and supplies it in kit form, with a USB-C port and a popcorn cup holder.
A wall-hugging mechanism that saves space
Each seat has its own motor, which reclines the backrest and raises the leg rest in a single movement. The backrest tilts within the chair rather than backwards: the row can be placed directly against the rear wall, with no clearance needed behind it. The chair extends forwards, from a depth of 100 cm when closed to 170 cm when open. You therefore need to allow around 70 cm of clearance in front of the seats, in addition to walking space. A remote control is supplied with each seat, so everyone can adjust their recline without disturbing their neighbour. The downside of this single motor is that the backrest and leg rest always move together, with no separate adjustment.
Welded steel, okoumé plywood and high-resilience foams
Beneath the fabric, the mechanism rests on a welded steel structure, meaning steel components joined by welding, which withstands repeated opening and closing. The rest of the frame is made from okoumé plywood, a lightweight, stable tropical wood. The seat frame, which bears most of the weight, is 30 mm thick. The backrest frame and supporting chassis are 15 mm thick and are both reinforced with a solid beech crosspiece.
The padding combines three CertiPUR-certified foams, each selected according to the demands placed on the area. The seat uses 43 kg/m³ high-resilience (HR) foam. High resilience refers to a foam that is more elastic than conventional polyurethane foam and quickly regains its shape after compression, while such a high density delays sagging over repeated viewing sessions. The backrest, which carries less weight, uses a softer 26 kg/m³ HR foam, and the armrests use 24 kg/m³ polyether foam.
Seven velvet, laboratory-tested
The upholstery is a knitted velvet called Seven, with a face of 100% polyester and a backing of 90% polyester and 10% cotton, weighing 420 g per linear metre. In the Martindale abrasion test (EN ISO 12947-1 and -2 standards), in which a disc rubs the fabric until visible wear appears, it exceeds 100,000 cycles. Upholstery fabric for everyday domestic use typically achieves around 20,000 to 30,000. Pilling, the small balls of fibre that form through friction, is rated 4-5 on a scale of 5 after 2,000 rubs, meaning its appearance remains almost unchanged. The fabric also has water-repellent, moisture-resistant and stain-resistant treatments: spilled liquid beads on the surface rather than soaking in immediately.
Lightfastness is rated 4 for light shades and 4-5 for medium and dark shades, on a scale of 8. This is sufficient in a dark room, but it is best to avoid placing the row in direct sunlight behind a window.
Two seats supplied in kit form, expandable as needed
The row consists of two seats and three armrests. It measures 164 cm wide and 105 cm high, with a seat width of 57 cm. Supplied in kit form, it arrives in separate modules: 35 kg per seat and 15 kg per armrest, totalling 115 kg once assembled. These modules are easy to carry up stairs or through a narrow doorway, something a one-piece row rarely allows. To add a seat, all you need is one additional seat and armrest: the row then measures 237 cm with three seats, and 311 cm with four seats.
A USB-C port charges a phone or tablet during the film, and the Pop Corn cup holder keeps your drink and popcorn within easy reach.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the 2-seat version and the duo version?
The 2-seat version separates the two seats with a central armrest and measures 164 cm wide. The narrower duo version (147 cm) combines the two seats without a central armrest: the row takes up less space, but each person loses their arm support and the middle cup holder.
What’s the difference compared to the Oray POP armchair?
Both models have the same height (105 cm), the same depth when closed and open (100 and 170 cm), and the same seat width of 57 cm. The POP is available in wall-hugger or dual-motor versions, with a wide choice of leathers and fabrics, and an optional USB-C port or popcorn cup holder. The ONE has the same dimensions, with Seven fabric, one wall-hugger motor per seat, a USB-C port and popcorn cup holder as standard, all supplied as a kit.
How much floor space is needed?
When fully reclined, the two-seat row occupies 164 × 170 cm, or approximately 2.8 m². Additional clearance is needed in front and on the sides for access. Since the backrest does not move backwards, no space is required between the row and the wall.
How do I care for Seven fabric?
The fabric care codes allow washing at 30 °C and professional dry cleaning (symbol P, standard dry-cleaning solvents). Bleach, ironing and tumble drying are not permitted. For everyday care, the stain-resistant treatment makes it easier to clean a stain with a damp cloth, provided you act quickly.
What does the CertiPUR label guarantee for foams?
CertiPUR certifies polyurethane foams made without certain flame retardants, heavy metals or phthalates, and without substances that deplete the ozone layer. The label also requires low emissions of volatile organic compounds, substances released into indoor air, particularly when the armchair is new.
How does the fabric react to fire and chemicals?
The Seven fabric has passed the cigarette test under British standard BS 5852 (1979). This test verifies that a lit cigarette placed on the upholstery does not ignite it. The fabric complies with the European REACH regulation on chemicals, and it contains no dimethyl fumarate, an antifungal agent once placed in furniture packaging that causes skin allergies and has been banned in the European Union since 2009.
