Two French brands. A stereo system that focuses on intelligibility, rhythm, and power without sacrificing finesse. The Cabasse AMP 240S, a connected amp packed with sophisticated digital processing, here drives the Triangle BR08 floorstanding speakers, 3-way models with high sensitivity and generous bass. The system easily covers rooms up to 50 m², to the benefit of both music and movie soundtracks.

A compact amp concentrating seven decades of expertise

The Cabasse AMP 240S (initially marketed under the name Abyss) borrows its amplification algorithms from the brand’s flagship, The Pearl Pelegrina. Despite its compact format (24.5 × 9.7 × 22 cm for 3.5 kg), the unit conceals a Class D section capable of delivering 2 × 120 W into 8 Ω and 2 × 215 W into 4 Ω.

The front panel features a color touch LCD screen surrounded by a metal rotary ring for volume adjustment. This interface displays album covers, lets you change source, and access favorites without using the app. A 3.5 mm headphone jack completes the setup. On the rear panel: two analog RCA inputs, one optical input, one HDMI eARC port for the TV, an Ethernet socket, a USB-A port for storage devices, and a pre-out for a subwoofer.

Real-time signal processing

Two proprietary technologies set this amplifier apart. DFE (Dynamic Fidelity Enhancer) continuously adjusts the power sent to the speakers according to volume, spectral content, and track dynamics. The result: a preserved tonal balance, whether listening quietly or at high volume. DEAP (Digital Enhancement of Acoustical Performance) goes further with multiband processing using feedback loops: nearly 290 million operations per second to optimize synergy between the amp and the speakers.

DEAP offers ready-to-use profiles calibrated for Cabasse speakers (Minorca MC40, Murano, Java MC40, Murano Alto), but the AMP 240S works perfectly with any pair of passive speakers, including the Triangle BR08. A setting allows compensation for the listening position in the room.

Streaming and multiroom made simple

The Cabasse StreamCONTROL app (iOS/Android) centralizes access to built-in streaming services: Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Napster, and thousands of web radios. The amp plays hi‑res files up to DSD 128, as well as FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, and standard compressed formats. AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth compatibility round out the options for occasional use.

The AMP 240S integrates into the Cabasse multiroom ecosystem: it can be grouped with other devices from the brand to play synchronized music in multiple rooms. Software updates via StreamCONTROL add new features over time.

Triangle BR08 floorstanders: balance and dynamism

The BR08 served as the reference point for the development of the Borea range. Triangle drew on research conducted for the higher-end Esprit Ez series. The 3‑way configuration shares the work between four drivers: a 25 mm silk dome tweeter, a 16 cm midrange, and two 16 cm fiberglass woofers.

The tweeter incorporates the EFS (Efficient Flow System). A specifically developed phase plug evens out high-frequency dispersion and reduces directivity. The midrange cone, made of untreated natural cellulose pulp, reproduces voices with the grain and presence characteristic of Triangle’s signature sound. The fiberglass woofers favor rigidity and fast attack for tight, rhythmic bass.

A cabinet designed for neutrality

Triangle has integrated the DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System) into the Boreas. Internally slotted MDF panels combined with high-density EVA foam absorb vibrations generated by the drivers. The cabinet transmits fewer unwanted resonances, which clarifies the midrange and treble.

The front-firing bass-reflex port allows placement close to the rear wall without excessive bass boom. The floorstanders are 1.02 m tall (1.05 m with the plinth) and weigh 19.6 kg each. The plinth accommodates supplied decoupling spikes or rubber feet, depending on the type of floor. A magnetic fabric grille protects the drivers.

Compatibility and setup

With a sensitivity of 92 dB, the BR08 can easily fill rooms from 15 to 50 m² without strain. Impedance drops to 3 Ω at certain frequencies, which places demands on the amplifier; the AMP 240S’s 215 W into 4 Ω provide comfortable headroom. Bi‑wiring is possible thanks to the double binding posts, but single wiring already yields excellent results.

The amplifier’s HDMI eARC input retrieves the TV’s audio signal without needing an external converter. Movie soundtracks then benefit from the system’s dynamics, with clear dialogue and impactful low-frequency effects.
