Overview
Three and a half metres wide, with a ten-millimetre border and a matte white surface: mounted on the wall of a dedicated room or large living room, this screen lets nothing but the picture draw your eye. The PureView screen material is the most versatile of the five available for the Edge|One frame, and the 160-inch diagonal is the largest in the range, which starts at 90 inches. You’ll still need the wall space, viewing distance and projector to match.
A 10 mm border around a 3.5-metre-wide picture
The aluminium frame is less than a centimetre thick and 10 mm wide all the way around. At this size, the difference between the image area (3 542 × 1 992 mm) and the overall dimensions (3 562 × 2 012 mm) is just two centimetres in each direction. Once mounted, the screen looks more like a large flat panel than a piece of audiovisual equipment, and it fades from notice as soon as the lights go down.
The black, bevelled edges absorb the part of the projected beam that spills slightly beyond the screen material, a common occurrence when the projector is not aligned to the millimetre. They also create a crisp boundary around the picture, which the eye perceives as increased contrast. The slim border has a trade-off: a narrow frame conceals little. A wide border forgives imperfect geometry; this one calls for careful framing with the zoom and lens shift so the picture fits the screen material exactly.
Matte white with a modest gain
A screen’s gain expresses how much light it reflects towards a viewer directly in front of it, compared with a reference matte white surface rated at 1. With a gain of 1.1, PureView reflects only slightly more light than that reference: enough to keep the picture vivid, but not enough to create a brighter area in the centre. Its 160° viewing angle maintains even brightness across the entire surface, including for seats at the ends of the sofa. On a picture more than 3.5 m wide, where the edges are viewed at a pronounced angle from the front rows, that consistency matters.
The screen material is a white PVC film with a black backing. This backing makes it opaque: no light passes through, and the wall does not show through the picture. It supports 4K UHD, Full HD and 3D, and its antistatic treatment limits dust build-up, a welcome detail across seven square metres of surface. It is also treated to resist fire and mould, and can be cleaned.
Matte white does not distinguish between light sources: it reflects light from the projector, but also from a lamp or window, turning blacks grey. PureView performs best in a dark room or a living room where the lighting can be controlled during a viewing session.
Springs all around to keep the screen material flat
The screen material is attached to the frame by springs distributed around its perimeter, pulling it evenly in every direction. On a surface this large, even the slightest ripple stands out: it appears as a variation in brightness across broad, light-coloured areas, a sky or a white background, and becomes visible during camera movements. The rigidity of the aluminium profiles prevents the frame from bending under tension, while the springs maintain consistent tension over time, viewing after viewing.
Plan for the wall, viewing distance and projector
At 3.56 m wide and 2.01 m high, the screen needs an unobstructed wall at least 3.6 m wide, with no door or window in the area it occupies. For height, placing the bottom of the picture 60 cm above the floor brings the top of the frame to around 2.6 m: a 2.7 m ceiling leaves a little room to spare, while a standard 2.5 m ceiling means bringing the picture close to the floor.
For seating distance, a picture viewed at a 40° angle, as from a central seat in a cinema, puts the viewer about 4.9 m from the screen. A more relaxed 30° angle moves the sofa back to around 6.6 m. For the projector, the distance is calculated from its throw ratio: a 1.4:1 model will need to be about 5 m from the screen material, while a 2:1 model will need to be a little over 7 m away. Checking the lens’s zoom range before buying avoids discovering that the planned ceiling mount is in the wrong place.
Wall mounting and assembly in less than half an hour
The frame hangs on wall brackets, and assembly takes less than 30 minutes when following the supplied illustrated instructions. At this size, handling a frame more than 3.5 m wide is easier with two people, especially when lifting it onto its brackets. Keep the box flat until assembly. For everyday care, the aluminium frame needs only a wipe with a cloth, and the screen material can be cleaned gently.

How bright should a projector be for a 160-inch image?
To achieve a luminance of 14 foot-lamberts (48 cd/m², the standard for SDR movie theaters) on a 7 m² screen with a gain of 1.1, you need around 1,000 lumens of actual output with the projector set to an accurate picture mode. The figures advertised by projector manufacturers often correspond to the brightest mode and drop noticeably once the image is calibrated. In practice, a model rated at around 2,000 lumens or more provides some headroom, with even more needed for HDR, which calls for brighter highlights.
Is the PureView screen suitable for a bright living room?
It is suitable for a living room where the lights can be dimmed during the screening. For a room where ambient light remains, the gray Aurora Pro ALR screen, with a gain of 0.8, rejects some of that light and preserves contrast. It is designed for standard-throw and short-throw projectors, but not ultra-short-throw models.
Are all Edge|One screens available in 160 inches?
No. The Apex ALR Standard and Apex ALR UST Fresnel screens are only available in 90, 100, 110, and 120 inches. For 160 inches, the options are PureView, the SonicWeave acoustic screen, and the Aurora Pro ALR screen.
Can the speakers be placed behind the screen?
Not with PureView: its black backing makes it opaque and would significantly muffle the sound. To place the front and center speakers behind the image, the SonicWeave woven screen lets sound pass through with less than 0.5 dB of attenuation and remains compatible with 4K and 8K sources.
Is an ultra-short-throw projector suitable for this format?
First, check the projector’s maximum image size: very few ultra-short-throw models can produce a 160-inch image. Élysium Screens’ screens designed for this type of projection top out at 120 inches. For a 160-inch image, a standard- or long-throw projector mounted on the ceiling or at the back of the room remains the natural choice.
How do I clean the fabric without damaging it?
A dry microfiber cloth is enough in most cases, thanks to the antistatic treatment that limits dust buildup. For a mark, a slightly damp cloth wiped gently over the surface will do. Household cleaners, solvents, and vigorous rubbing should be avoided on any projection surface.
