Projeo Motion HD 77
Projeo Motion HD 77, motorized projection screen
Installing a projection screen without sacrificing the look of your living room remains a common headache. A fixed screen permanently occupies the wall, while a tripod clutters the floor. Motorization solves this problem: the screen drops down when needed and retracts into its casing the rest of the time. Projeo’s Motion HD 77 applies this idea to a 77-inch screen in a 16:9 format.
A lacquered casing for discreet integration
The casing that houses the screen measures 8.2 cm on each side, a square section common to all four diagonal sizes in the range. On the 77-inch model, it extends to 200.4 cm in length. The metal is finished in white lacquer, a finish that blends with a ceiling or light-colored wall and remains more visible against a dark background.
It can be mounted on the wall, ceiling, or suspended. The choice depends on ceiling height and the position of the video projector. Once the screen is retracted, only the casing remains visible, freeing up the wall for other uses between viewing sessions.
The matte white screen and its viewing angle
The projection surface is a matte white screen with a gain of 1. This neutral gain reflects as much light as the projector sends, no more and no less, and reproduces colors and contrast without boosting them. The trade-off is well known: a gain-1 screen does not compensate for a dim projector or a poorly darkened room. It performs best in a living room where lighting is well controlled.
Directivity reaches 170°. The image maintains its brightness and uniformity for viewers seated off to the sides, a useful point as soon as the room has several rows or a corner sofa.
On the projector side, the screen is intended for long-throw models, those placed several meters from the screen or ceiling-mounted. Ultra short-throw video projectors, placed just below the surface, require a specific screen and are not suitable here.
Black borders frame the screen: 40 mm at the top, 55 mm on the sides, and 500 mm at the bottom. This wide lower band lowers the image below the casing and places it at the right height for seated viewers. The borders also absorb slight projector light spill and enhance the perceived contrast.
How the screen deploys and is controlled
A synchronous motor drives the screen upward or downward. This type of motor runs at a steady speed, providing consistent movement and precise stopping in both the upper and lower positions.
The screen can be controlled in several ways. The infrared remote communicates with a receiver built into the casing. A remote infrared sensor is included: it can be placed in an open area when the casing is hidden by furniture or built into a false ceiling, where the remote would not have a direct line of sight. A wired three-position switch—up, stop, and down—serves as a backup control.
Power is supplied via a European-type 220 V power cord, 4.7 m long. This cable length leaves enough slack to reach an outlet without an extension cord in most installations.
The 77-inch size and the other diagonals
The Motion HD 77 displays a usable image measuring 170.5 cm wide by 96 cm high, which corresponds to a 77-inch diagonal in a 16:9 format. This size suits a standard living room, where the available viewing distance remains moderate.
Three other diagonal sizes complete the Motion HD range: 92, 106, and 120 inches. All use the same 8.2 cm section casing, matte white screen, and synchronous motorization. Only the image width and casing length vary. The choice depends on wall surface area and projection distance.
The screen is delivered in packaging 223.8 cm long. The box can be stored and transported flat. The screen and its roller tube do not respond well to prolonged vertical storage, which may mark the surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
What throw distance should be planned for the projector?
The screen is designed for long-throw video projectors, meaning models installed several meters from the screen or ceiling-mounted. The exact distance depends on the projector’s throw ratio, not the screen. For an image 170.5 cm wide, refer to the projector’s specifications, which indicate the throw range corresponding to that width. A short-throw or ultra short-throw model is not suitable for this screen.
Does the screen work with a 4K or HDR source?
Yes. A projection screen does not process the video signal: it reflects the image as formed by the projector. The matte white gain-1 surface transmits the received resolution and dynamic range without filtering, whether it is Full HD, 4K, or HDR content. The 16:9 format matches the standard frame used for television, streaming, and presentations.
Can the screen be integrated into a home automation setup?
Control is only via infrared and the wired switch. The Motion HD 77 has neither a trigger input nor a radio module. To control it from a home automation hub, you need to use an infrared transmitter placed facing the casing receiver or the remote sensor. The solution is possible but requires an additional device, not supplied with the screen.
Does installation require a professional?
Installation remains within reach of a capable DIYer, with two points to watch. The 200.4 cm casing must be fixed to a solid support, load-bearing wall or ceiling structure, since it carries the screen and its motor across its entire length. Setup also requires a nearby power outlet and routing the cable to the control switch. For ceiling or false-ceiling installation, the support of an installer makes the job easier.
