In a room dedicated to cinema, image quality depends as much on the projection surface as on the video projector. A screen that is well stretched and perfectly flat preserves geometry and focus without distortion, whereas a surface that ripples reveals every flaw. The Frame HD 90 meets this requirement with a rigid frame and a white screen calibrated for long-throw projectors.

A white screen with measured gain

The projection surface is made of white PVC, with a gain of 1.1. Gain compares the light reflected toward viewers with that of a neutral reference surface. At 1.1, the screen sits just above that reference level: it returns a little more light than a strictly neutral surface, without slipping into the flaws of high-gain screens, such as a hotspot at the center of the image or a drop in quality as soon as one moves off-axis.

The viewing angle reaches 170 degrees. The image retains its brightness and uniformity for viewers seated at the sides, a point that matters as soon as a row of seats is wider than the screen. One caveat comes with this choice of light-colored screen: white PVC reflects the projector’s light, but also the room’s ambient light. Direct lighting washes out contrast and grays the blacks. In a darkened room, the screen maintains deep blacks and faithful colors.

The velvet frame and stray light

The frame is built on a black lacquered aluminum alloy structure, with a border width of 100 millimeters all around. Its visible face is covered with black velvet flocking, and this detail serves an optical function. When the projector framing does not match the screen exactly, a little light spills over onto the frame. The velvet absorbs this spillover instead of reflecting it back. The edges of the image gain sharpness, and perceived contrast improves, since the eye measures the white of the screen against a truly deep black rather than a glossy frame. The lacquered finish remains discreet in a room treated in dark tones, the usual setup for a projection room.

Flatness, the condition for a sharp image

The fixed frame structure pursues a single goal: keeping the screen perfectly flat. The rigid aluminum profile and the tensioning system keep the PVC taut across its entire surface, without folds or ripples. This flatness produces visible effects on the image. Focus remains even from one corner to the other, geometry is not distorted, and the film’s straight lines stay straight on the screen.

This principle has its trade-off. A fixed-frame screen is a permanent installation: the screen does not retract, and the frame continuously occupies its wall space. It is the right choice for a room reserved for projection, much less so for a living room whose wall serves other purposes the rest of the day.

Wall mounting and handling the frame

The screen mounts to the wall with a screw system. Installation follows a simple order: assemble the frame, tension the screen onto the frame, then attach the whole assembly to the wall. In 16:9 format, the Frame HD 90 provides a useful image area of 200 by 113 centimeters for a 90-inch diagonal. Including the border, the piece to be handled exceeds 2.20 meters in width.

This size has a practical consequence. The screen arrives in long, flat packaging, measuring 228 by 45 by 18.8 centimeters, and must be kept horizontal. Upright storage can deform the frame or loosen the screen tension before installation. Allow for two people to carry and install the frame to limit twisting of the profile. Long-throw projector and dedicated room

The Frame HD 90 works with long-throw video projectors, the kind placed at a distance from the screen, on furniture at the back of the room or on the ceiling. It is not suitable for ultra-short-throw models, placed just below the screen, which require a screen with a specific surface treatment. The white 1.1-gain screen finds its place in a room where lighting is controlled, where it preserves contrast without suffering from ambient light.

The 90-inch diagonal is the most compact in the Frame HD range, which offers four sizes up to 135 inches. This size suits a moderately sized room or a fairly short viewing distance. On a clearly larger diagonal viewed from too close, the eye becomes strained and the image structure becomes noticeable.
