Repairability Index
The repairability index is a score from 0 to 10 that tells you how easy a product is to repair. The higher the score, the easier the product is to repair. This index, mandatory in France since 2021, is part of the anti-waste law for a circular economy.

What is the repairability index?
Introduced by French law no. 2020-105 of 10 February 2020 on combating waste and promoting a circular economy, the repairability index aims to:
- Inform consumers about how repairable their purchases are
- Combat planned obsolescence
- Encourage repair rather than replacement
- Reduce electronic waste
The 5 calculation criteria
The index is calculated by the manufacturer according to five criteria:
- Documentation: free availability of technical manuals for repairers and consumers
- Disassembly: ease of taking apart, tools required and types of fixings used
- Spare parts availability: manufacturer’s commitment on availability period and delivery times
- Spare parts pricing: ratio between the cost of parts and the price of the new product
- Specific criteria: elements particular to each product category
Which products are covered?
Products with repairability index (2025)
- Laptops
- Electric lawnmowers
- Dishwashers
- Vacuum cleaners (corded and cordless)
- High-pressure cleaners
Products now using the durability index
- Televisions: since 8 January 2025
- Washing machines (front-loading and top-loading): since 8 April 2025
Special case: smartphones
Since June 2025, smartphones are subject to European regulations that require an energy label incorporating its own durability criteria.
Evolution towards the durability index
The durability index is an enhanced version of the repairability index. It includes additional reliability criteria:
- Resistance to stress and wear
- Ease of maintenance and upkeep
- Existence of a commercial warranty
- Manufacturer’s quality process
This evolution provides a more comprehensive assessment of product longevity. Other product categories are expected to gradually adopt this durability index.
Display requirements
As a retailer, we display the repairability index:
- Close to the price on each product page
- As a coloured pictogram (from red to green depending on the score)
- With access to the detailed sub-criteria in one click
The manufacturer is responsible for calculating the index and provides it to us for each product covered.
Why is this useful for you?
The repairability index helps you to:
- Compare products before purchase using an objective criterion
- Anticipate potential repair costs
- Make an eco-friendly choice by favouring durable products
- Reduce your environmental impact by avoiding waste
At HomeCinéSolutions, we systematically display this index when available, because we believe in more responsible and sustainable consumption.
