The brand new TX-RZ800 is designed for today’s music lovers: separate amplification and processing blocks, custom high-current transformer, custom capacitors, 384 kHz/32-bit Asahi Kasei D/A converter, separate low-impedance amplifier circuits, and 32-bit digital signal processor to fully exploit the performance of DTS:X and Dolby Atmos soundtracks. The high-current amplifier perfectly controls the speaker drivers to produce crystal-clear sound that can reach down to 5 Hz without phase shift.
The result is a perfectly focused sound image and extraordinarily powerful bass. Add to that VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) technology that eliminates impulse noise from the signal, and you get an AV receiver that’s ready to deliver THX reference sound levels, whether it’s an object-based movie soundtrack over HDMI terminals or an album wirelessly via AirPlay. The TX-RZ800 adds a new acoustic dimension to the latest UltraHD systems.
Onkyo amplifiers have always excelled in Home Cinema, but the brand has reached a particularly interesting level of maturity this year, as demonstrated by the improvements made to the preamplification section - one could even say a certain wisdom. But beyond these very fine performances with films, the manufacturer's efforts in terms of musicality are particularly noteworthy, an unexpected and unhoped-for shift, but necessary given the versatility demanded by a majority of users today. The result is finally up to expectations. More than just a "simple" successor to the TX-NR838, the Onkyo TX-RZ800 has established itself as one of the essential benchmarks of the year in the mid-range segment. Hats off.

This is my first Onkyo, and I'm comparing it to my old Denon 2807. I'm having trouble finding good settings for hi-fi listening, just in stereo on the Focal 836V speakers. No bass at all, and therefore no possible adjustment in pure direct mode - the sound is really not good, zero bass. Very disappointed because this was an important criterion. On my old Denon it worked great with superb sound. On the other hand, much better for home cinema. My old Triangle Meteor 1.5 subwoofer has never worked so well, with beautiful depth on the bass, magnificent. The rear Triangle speakers embedded in the wall have more dynamics and much more sound definition. However, the menus are really not practical and I'm giving it 4 stars because it's still good equipment. I was hesitating with a Denon 4200 when buying this one, maybe I should have gone with that in the end.
Pros: dynamics, good balance for home cinema, power.
Cons: menu, hi-fi listening.

Delighted with this new home theater amplifier, you can feel that the beast has power in reserve. Excellent for home theater listening, but also very musical, I'm rediscovering my vinyl records and FLAC files. Easy to configure even if the OSD isn't the prettiest, it has the merit of being clear and concise. In short, a beautiful 18kg baby that doesn't go unnoticed and delivers impressive performance on all levels. A future must-have.
Pros: Superb in silver, easy to use on a daily basis, great musicality, explosive for home theater.
