Cyrus Pre-XR

The Pre-XR is part of the first wave of products, heralding the new XR series of Cyrus components. Only the precision die-cast Cyrus chassis is the same, but everything else has changed. With cutting-edge engineering inside, an all-new phantom black paint finish, touch controls, and a higher resolution display customizable for brightness, contrast, and polarity, the XR’s high-quality finish makes a bold statement.

High-capacity power supply

The power supply design of the Pre-XR has received special attention. An over-specified 74VA power transformer feeds a high-capacity power reserve. In the circuit design, a generous total of 15 independent power regulators regulate, then sub-regulate the silent power.

Digital control circuits are assigned a separate mains supply, completely isolated from the signal circuits.

Balanced and unbalanced output options

The Pre-XR offers a choice of balanced audio output via XLR connectors for better performance in systems where it is paired with high-end power amplifiers with balanced inputs. An unbalanced output is also provided.

All-new analog preamplifier

The Pre-XR analog preamp features relay input selection and a new high-performance gain stage. This short-path design makes the analog preamplifier extremely transparent. With four analog inputs and MM phono, the Pre-XR will cover just about any system requirement for analog connectivity.

PSU-XR port

The Pre-XR includes a port for the new PSU-XR power supply. Thirty years ago, Cyrus innovated with the introduction of the PSX-R, the very first regulated power supply upgrade that automatically adapted to perfectly meet the power needs of any connected product. The PSUXR raises the bar by supplying no less than five independent regulated supplies in a single box. For the Pre-XR, the PSU-XR steps in to support powering the preamplifier’s analog stages.

Pre-XR digital performance

The Pre-XR’s DAC input stage includes a new 2nd generation version of the award-winning QXR DAC, but with an all-new high-speed analog buffer stage. Seven user-adjustable digital filter alignment options are available to suit the listener’s taste. Input options include USB audio (up to 768k sample rate) and DSD up to DSD512, 2 SPDIF digital inputs, and 2 optical digital inputs.
