I’ve had this LG G5 TV for about ten days now. The picture is much more vivid and colorful than on my 2021 Sony A90J. I’m delighted with my purchase.

The LG OLED48G5 2025 features the new Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology (also known as Four-Stack OLED), delivering significantly higher brightness than previous generations. Powered by the α11 AI 4K Gen2 processor, this TV combines perfect blacks, vibrant colors, and smart features for optimal viewing of movies, series, and video games. Certified “Perfect Black” and equipped with Brightness Booster technology, the G5 redefines the visual experience while maintaining an ultra-slim design that blends seamlessly into any interior.
The G5 series marks a decisive turning point in the evolution of OLED TVs. After just two years of using MLA OLED technology, LG introduces Primary RGB Tandem OLED, which offers superior visual performance. This four-layer structure optimizes light emission and control, achieving up to three times the brightness of entry-level models (B5 series) and 40% higher full-screen brightness than the G4.
Unlike other sizes in the G5 range, the 48-inch model (like the 97-inch) does not benefit from the full Brightness Booster Ultimate technology, but still delivers superior image quality compared to the previous generation. The higher pixel density of the 48-inch format partially compensates for this difference by providing increased detail sharpness.
The perfect blacks, a hallmark of OLED screens, reach a new level here, certified “Perfect Black” by UL. This ability to individually turn off each pixel creates striking contrast, especially visible in dark scenes where details remain perfectly defined.
At the heart of the G5 is the α11 AI 4K Gen2 processor, specially designed for high-end OLEDs. This processor analyzes and optimizes the image using 16 billion data points and the sound using 8.4 million data points, thanks to dedicated AI engines.
AI Picture Pro automatically adjusts image settings according to the content being viewed, while AI Director Processing analyzes content in real time to faithfully reproduce the director’s visual intent. The Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro feature adjusts brightness and colors scene by scene for optimal HDR rendering.
For movie lovers, Filmmaker Mode ensures faithful reproduction of the director’s vision, while Filmmaker Ambient Light Mode intelligently adapts the image to the room’s lighting conditions without distorting the original artistic intent.
The LGOLED48G5 boasts certifications attesting to its exceptional image quality. In addition to the “Perfect Black” certification, it is also certified by Intertek for color fidelity. Critics agree on the remarkable accuracy of its color rendering, especially after calibration.
Each color is reproduced with controlled vibrancy and appropriate brightness, while remaining true to reality. This chromatic precision, combined with 4K UHD definition (3840 x 2160), delivers an impressive level of detail across all types of content.
Compatibility with HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision formats ensures a wide dynamic range, although the lack of HDR10+ support may disappoint some users. Initially, the TV had some issues with Dolby Vision streaming content, but a software update has since resolved this problem.
The 48-inch G5 stands out for its advanced gaming features. With an ultra-fast response time of 0.1 ms and latency under 6 ms at 1080p and 2160p at 120 Hz (measured on the C5, likely similar on the G5), this TV offers exceptional responsiveness.
Although the 48-inch model does not support the 165 Hz refresh rate of larger versions, it is compatible with VRR up to 120 Hz, NVIDIA G-Sync, and AMD FreeSync. All four HDMI 2.1 ports support ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and QMS (Quick Media Switching), allowing smooth transitions between different content.
The integrated Gaming Dashboard provides quick access to essential settings, while HGIG mode optimizes HDR settings for compatible games. Support for Dolby Vision Gaming in 4K 120 Hz is an added bonus for next-generation consoles.
WebOS 25 offers a smooth and intuitive interface with extensive customization. The system recognizes users via Voice ID and suggests targeted content based on their preferences. The AI Concierge recommends programs according to viewing habits, while the AI Chatbot answers questions about the TV.
The redesigned Magic Remote for 2025 retains its navigation wheel while providing easy access to the smart home dashboard. It also allows quick access to built-in voice assistants (Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, LG ThinQ).
Compatibility with Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Apple Home, and Google Home/Hub ensures seamless integration into any connected ecosystem. The TV also supports a wide range of streaming apps and cloud gaming services.
The 4.2-channel 60W audio system delivers substantial sound power for a TV of this size. Dolby Atmos compatibility, combined with α11 AI Sound Pro technology, creates 11.1.2-channel virtual sound for expansive spatialization.
The Clear Voice Pro function uses AI to enhance dialogue intelligibility, while AI Acoustic Tuning automatically adapts sound settings to the room’s acoustics. For owners of a compatible LG soundbar, WOW Orchestra technology synchronizes the TV’s speakers with those of the soundbar for an expanded soundstage.
The TV is also WiSA compatible (up to 2.1 channels) and supports Bluetooth Surround Ready for wireless connection with additional speakers.
With a thickness of just 27.2 mm, the G5 features an ultra-slim profile that discreetly fits into any interior. Its compact dimensions (1222 x 703 x 27.2 mm without stand) make it an ideal option for small spaces while offering a comfortable 48-inch (122 cm) diagonal.
The TV can be placed on its included stand or wall-mounted thanks to its VESA 300 x 200 mm compatibility. Its weight of 16.8 kg without the stand makes it relatively easy to handle during installation.
The G5 offers extensive connectivity with four HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4K 120 Hz, eARC, VRR, ALLM, QMS, and QFT. Three USB 2.0 ports allow connection of storage devices or a USB camera for video calls.
Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 for fast and stable transfers. An Ethernet port ensures a more reliable wired internet connection for high-definition streaming.
The central stand is included with the TV. Wall mount is not included.
The 48-inch model (like the 97-inch) does not feature the full Brightness Booster Ultimate technology or the 165 Hz refresh rate available on other sizes. It uses a variant of the Four-Stack OLED technology that still offers higher brightness than the previous generation, while retaining the other premium features of the G5 range.
The G5 introduces the new Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology, offering about 40% higher full-screen brightness compared to the G4. It also features the more powerful α11 AI Gen2 processor, WebOS 25 with enhanced AI features, and supports a higher variable refresh rate on certain models.
While OLED TVs generally have limitations in very bright environments, the G5 offers significantly higher brightness than previous generations and features effective anti-reflective treatment. Tests show it can overcome glare in most lighting conditions, though some reflections may still be slightly visible in extremely bright settings.
Absolutely. All four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K 120Hz, VRR, ALLM, and Dolby Vision Gaming, allowing you to take full advantage of next-generation consoles. The ultra-fast response time and low latency ensure an optimal gaming experience.
