Frequently Asked Questions

Can the RS451 replace a high-end external DAC?

With its two independent ES9027PRO converters and ROSE NRA analog filter, the RS451 delivers performance comparable to external DACs costing several thousand euros. The 130 dB dynamic range and distortion below 0.00025% place it among the best references on the market.

What’s the difference compared to the flagship RS151?

The RS151 remains superior with its ES9039PRO converter, 15.4-inch screen, and fully balanced construction. The RS451 positions itself as a more compact and affordable alternative, particularly geared toward headphone listening with its four dedicated amplifiers. Both models nevertheless share the same octa-core processor and identical streaming capabilities.

Does the unit require an external headphone amplifier?

The RS451’s headphone section, with its four amplifiers in parallel configuration, is more than sufficient to drive virtually all headphones on the market, including the most demanding models up to 600 ohms. The available power and amplification quality make any external addition superfluous.

How does the CD ripping mentioned in the specifications work?

Via an external USB CD drive (such as HiFi Rose’s optional RSA780 or any compatible USB drive), the RS451 can rip your CDs directly to internal or external storage. Files are encoded losslessly and automatically indexed in the music library.

Does the RS451 support native DSD or only DoP?

The unit handles native DSD up to DSD512 (22.6 MHz) via the USB input, while the coaxial and optical inputs are limited to DSD128 and DSD64 respectively, in DoP (DSD over PCM) mode only.

Can the preamp and headphone outputs be used simultaneously?

Since the two sections have completely independent converters and circuits, nothing technically prevents their simultaneous use. The front-panel output selector lets you switch quickly between different options as needed.

Is the touchscreen essential for everyday use?

The Rose Connect app offers full remote control, making the touchscreen optional for daily use. Nevertheless, its presence greatly facilitates menu navigation, album artwork display, and quick access to settings. An infrared remote control is also included for basic commands.
