Audio streaming is a hi-fi revolution, and the ND5 XS unleashes its potential. It offers easy access to all audio file formats that have made music at home exciting again. With its wired or wireless network connection, the ND5 XS can literally stream thousands of Internet radio stations. The ND5 XS features Apple authentication, meaning it can play music stored on an iPod, iPad or iPhone digitally for optimal sound quality via its front-panel USB port. And with the same port, the ND5 XS can play audio files stored on USB drives.

The ND5 XS can play audio files, including iTunes libraries, stored on a computer or network storage via UPnP. It can play the full range of audio file and stream formats up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution: WAV, FLAC, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WMA, MP3, M4A, MMS, AAC, and Ogg Vorbis. The ND5 XS can also handle M3U and PLS playlist formats and enables gapless playback. Finally, thanks to an optional FM/DAB tuner module that seamlessly integrates with the ND5 XS’s control interface, traditional radio is not forgotten either.

For more conventional external audio sources, the ND5 XS provides three independently selectable digital inputs to enable playback of S/PDIF audio content from CD players, computers, and other digital audio sources up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. The three digital inputs offer a different connection socket option: Toslink optical, coaxial phono, and coaxial BNC for optimal versatility and sound quality.

Control Choices

The ND5 XS is as versatile in its operation as it is in its applications. Its three user interfaces provide alternative control methods – each suited to different situations and personal preferences. It can be operated from the buttons on its front panel, its remote control, or using Naim’s free n-Stream app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

In each case, control is simple, intuitive, and satisfying. System automation functions also allow the ND5 XS to integrate with any connected Naim DAC, preamplifier, or CD player, providing centralized control via the n-Stream app.
