High-Definition Televisions Philips

About Philips

Philips was founded in 1891 in Eindhoven (Netherlands) by Gerard and Frederik Philips to produce incandescent lamps. The brand quickly turned to innovation: radio tubes, X-rays, then radios and televisions. In the 1930s, it launched the Philishave electric shaver.

After surviving World War II, Philips experienced global growth: it invented the audio cassette (1963), the CD (1983), and contributed to the development of the DVD. The company diversified into music with PolyGram and into healthcare.

Since the 2000s, Philips has refocused on health, lifestyle, and technology, selling off its home appliance and semiconductor businesses. Today, it is a global leader in medical technology, lighting, and electronic innovation.
