MicroLine Stylus Profile

The stylus used is of recent design and utilizes the MicroLine profile (see diagram on previous page). Its shape more closely resembles the cutting stylus used to create the master record than any previous profile, allowing it to trace the grooves more accurately for better high frequency response, less wear, and lower distortion than other available profiles.

PCOCC Wire Coils

The cartridge coils use an advanced, pure copper wire, forming a “Para-toroidal Signal Generator”, an Audio-Technica exclusive (see diagram on previous page). Assisted by the laminated core structure, which reduces high frequency losses, this integrated para-toroidal signal generator works with much greater efficiency than conventional cartridges. The use of PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire further improves the performance of the para-toroidal coil design. The special high-temperature extrusion process results in copper with virtually no transverse crystal barriers to impede signal transmission or color the sound. As a result, the AT150MLX’s coils generate a signal free of distortion, revealing subtle details with clarity and purity.

A mu-metal shielding plate separates the left and right channels at the coil level, preserving effective channel separation in the cartridge output. To further enhance the precision of the AT150MLX’s moving coil, Audio-Technica engineers eliminated unwanted vibrations with an anti-resonance ceramic base.

In keeping with the attention to detail, even the cartridge’s output terminals are made from PCOCC copper. It is this meticulous focus on every aspect of coil winding and vibration that results in significant improvements in performance and sound quality. This superb phono cartridge delivers great listening pleasure to audiophiles and serious music lovers.
