Overview

The EQ-Max 8 series features a 180 W RMS and 360 W peak Class D amplification, with a 20.3 cm reinforced synthetic fiber driver in a bass reflex enclosure. It is primarily geared towards home theater, although sealed enclosure subwoofers remain the most recommended for hi-fi listening. They offer quite decent musical performance for versatile use.

The interactive display on the front panel allows you to control it remotely with the included remote to adjust volume, select one of four custom listening presets (Movies, R&B/Rock, Jazz/Classical, and Games), correct phase, turn the front LED on or off, or limit output for late night listening.

Simplified setup: Auto-EQ and remote control

Setting up a subwoofer, which is always quite complex, is Velodyne’s forte. With the EQ-Max series, the American brand concentrates advanced technologies previously deployed on the highly prestigious Digital Drive models. With the Auto-EQ system, you simply need to unplug the subwoofer, place it in your desired location, connect the included microphone, and let the 5-band digital equalizer do its work to achieve superb bass. This process is made even easier by the included remote control with the Velodyne EQ-Max subwoofers. The remote also allows you to choose from factory presets like Night mode as well as adjust volume.

Class-D amplification and long-throw driver

Velodyne remains faithful to Class-D amplification and its long-throw drivers specifically designed for subwoofers. These feature double-layer, generously sized voice coils and massive magnets (2.1 to 4.6 kg!). Combine these elements with the Distortion Limiting System, and you’ll understand that the EQ-Max subwoofers will deliver very pure, overhang-free bass.
