To generate the local oscillator frequency, the T-1200 employs the innovative principle of direct digital synthesis (DDS). Fully driven by a high-precision reference clock signal, the DDS oscillator provides an extremely pure signal with very low phase noise, surpassing conventional oscillators.

Variable bandwidth IF filtering for great versatility

After converting the RF signal to intermediate frequency, a variable bandwidth filter digitally implemented by DSP comes into play. Depending on reception conditions, the IF filter’s bandwidth can be continuously adjusted. This allows for the best combination of selectivity and audio quality. In the presence of interference, the bandwidth is reduced. Conversely, it can be widened under good conditions to favor high fidelity.

A multipath reduction function for echo-free reception

Signal reflections on buildings or terrain can create annoying echoes, especially in stereo. To address this, the T-1200 integrates a multipath reduction (MPR) function that effectively detects and suppresses these parasitic reflections. The result is a stable and precise stereo image, even in challenging reception conditions.

A high-performance digital FM demodulator

After IF filtering, the signal is sent to the digital FM demodulator. Fully implemented in the digital domain through DSP processing, it keeps distortion and noise to a minimum. Combined with an RF level detector, it ensures optimal performance across the entire dynamic range, from the weakest to the strongest signals.

Ideal stereo demodulation thanks to DS-DC technology

To extract the left and right channels from the multiplexed stereo signal, the T-1200 implements an innovative demodulation technique called DS-DC (Direct Synthesis - Double Cancellation). It combines two technologies:

Direct synthesis of the pilot carrier through digital processing. Even in the presence of high noise levels, the pilot carrier is reliably generated, ensuring excellent stereo separation.
The dual crosstalk cancellation, which eliminates channel leakage by considering both amplitude and phase, results in an extremely high left/right separation.

Entirely executed in the digital domain by DSP algorithms, this stereo demodulation offers unmatched performance.

A high-performance D/A converter for optimal sound reproduction

To convert the digital audio signal from the demodulator into an analog signal, the T-1200 uses a high-performance MDS (Multiple Delta Sigma) type D/A converter. Operating at very high speed, it generates a very high-level quantization noise, which is easily filterable. The result is pure and detailed sound with an extremely low background noise.

Despite its rich functionality, the T-1200 remains very simple to use thanks to well-thought-out ergonomics:
