With nearly 100 kg on the scale and a 45 cm diameter driver, the SW-D9000 sits at the top of the Tonewinner subwoofer range. This Chinese manufacturer, active since 1992 and one of the first in China to obtain Dolby Atmos and HDMI certifications, here offers an active subwoofer designed for very large rooms and content rich in infrabass. The 1500 W RMS (8000 W peak) Class D amplification and the stated extension down to 11 Hz clearly show its ambition: to produce bass you feel as much as you hear.

An 18-inch transducer designed for long excursion

The SW-D9000’s driver alone weighs 22.2 kg. Its 115 mm voice coil and 253 mm dual-magnet motor structure allow for large excursions without loss of control. The composite cone provides the rigidity needed to avoid deformation under high pressure, while the long-throw suspension allows for substantial air displacement.

This oversized motorization is not just about brute force. It targets fast, precise reproduction, where the driver follows the signal faithfully without smearing transients. The result: sharp impact on movie explosions, but also enough articulation to follow a musical bass line.

Bass-reflex or sealed enclosure depending on the context

Six ports occupy the front face of the subwoofer. This bass-reflex configuration maximizes efficiency in the deep bass and reinforces the sense of power. For smaller rooms or musical listening where a tighter bass is preferred, supplied foam plugs can be used to block the ports and switch to a sealed enclosure. The DSP includes a dedicated mode for each configuration to automatically adapt filtering and equalization.

This choice between two enclosure types avoids having to buy two different subwoofers depending on use. In practice, bass-reflex mode will be better suited to cinema and large rooms, while sealed mode will offer tighter bass for music or more constrained spaces.

DSP and mobile app for precise adjustment

The front touch LCD screen provides access to the main parameters: volume, high and low cutoff frequency, filter slope, phase (adjustable from 0° to 180°) and four preset listening modes (Deep, Normal, Strong, User). The 7-band parametric equalizer allows you to correct modal peaks related to room acoustics.

The Tonewinner app, available on iOS and Android, duplicates all these settings via Bluetooth. You can therefore adjust the subwoofer from your listening position, which greatly facilitates calibration by ear or with a measurement microphone. Firmware updates are also carried out wirelessly, a welcome detail for a device of this weight.

Comprehensive connectivity and chained LFE output

The rear panel offers three inputs: stereo line RCA, RCA LFE (unbalanced) and XLR LFE (balanced). The balanced XLR input is useful for long runs or environments where electromagnetic interference is present. An RCA LFE output allows you to daisy-chain a second subwoofer without having to run back to the amplifier or processor.

The subwoofer accepts mains voltages of 110-115 V and 220-230 V, which simplifies its use in different regions of the world. Multiple protections (overvoltage, overload, overheating, short circuit) ensure peace of mind even during extended high-level listening sessions.

A positioning focused on large spaces

With response extending down to 11 Hz, the SW-D9000 reproduces the infrabass present in modern soundtracks (explosions, takeoffs, natural disasters) and in certain musical genres (electronic, organ, hip-hop. This ability to reproduce frequencies that are felt physically is only useful if the listening room and isolation allow it: in an apartment or a room of less than 20 m², the excess sound pressure will be hard to manage.

Very large rooms or dedicated installations (private home theaters, studios) are the SW-D9000’s natural playground. In these conditions, its power reserve and extension into the extreme low end truly come into their own.
