Overview

With its 22 kg on the scale and 11 built-in amplification channels, the AT-2000 stands out in the home theater amplifier landscape. Tonewinner, a Chinese manufacturer founded in 1992, has long worked behind the scenes for Western brands such as Emotiva or Advance Paris. With this model, the brand asserts its own identity by combining a generous audio section, 4K HDR video processing, and a karaoke function rarely seen at this level of integration.

Power distributed over 11 channels

The AT-2000 delivers 160 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms and 285 W into 4 ohms. These measurements are taken in single-channel mode at 1 kHz with 1% distortion, a favorable measurement method, but the power reserve remains comfortable for driving floorstanding speakers or full 7.2.4 systems without resorting to an external power amp. The stated total harmonic distortion (≤ 0.05%) and signal-to-noise ratio (≥ 98 dB) place the unit in a respectable range, without extreme audiophile pretensions.

The preamplified section allows output over 11.3 channels via RCA. On the subwoofer side, the offering is generous: three XLR outputs and three RCA outputs allow multi-subwoofer configurations without an external splitter.

Atmos and DTS:X decoding without compromising video

The audio processing supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X formats, with backward compatibility across all earlier formats. The maximum decoding configuration reaches 7.2.4 channels, which covers the majority of home setups. Beyond that, you will need to look at the AT-3000 and its 9.3.4 channels.

The video section handles 4K at 60 Hz with full support for HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG. The six HDMI 2.1 inputs and two outputs (one eARC-compatible) ensure modern connectivity, even though the lack of 4K/120 Hz pass-through limits its appeal for gamers on recent consoles. HDCP 2.2 compatibility guarantees smooth playback of protected content.

Easy Test EQ: in-house calibration to be refined

Tonewinner has developed its own acoustic correction system called Easy Test EQ. The principle: a measurement microphone (model ETM-2, sold separately) captures the room’s sound information, and the amplifier automatically adjusts the parameters of each channel, including distance, delay, sound pressure, and frequency response.

The system works, but its capabilities lag behind established solutions such as Audyssey XT32 or Dirac Live. The manual parametric equalization offers a welcome complement to refine channel-by-channel settings, with several bands available depending on the channels. Users accustomed to advanced calibration can also interface an external processor such as a miniDSP to make up for this shortcoming.

Connectivity and file playback

In addition to the HDMI inputs, the AT-2000 offers two optical inputs, two coaxial inputs, three RCA line inputs, and a USB-A port accompanied by a micro SD card reader. Lossless audio file playback (FLAC, APE, WAV) works directly from a storage device, with folder management displayed on-screen via the English OSD menu.

The built-in Bluetooth receiver enables music streaming from a smartphone with announced compatibility for Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora via the dedicated mobile app (iOS and Android). This app also serves as a remote control and management hub for common settings.

For home automation integration, an RS232 port, a trigger output, and an IR input complete the package. The screw speaker terminals, sized for comfortably thick cables, accept all 11 channels directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the calibration microphone supplied with the AT-2000?

No. The ETM-2 microphone required for the Easy Test EQ system is sold separately. Without this microphone, automatic calibration is not available, but manual settings (distances, levels, parametric equalization) remain accessible.

Can the AT-2000 be used only as a preamplifier?

Yes. The 11.3-channel RCA preamp outputs allow you to bypass the internal amplification and feed external power amps. This configuration offers welcome scalability if the built-in power proves insufficient for low-sensitivity speakers or a large room.

Does the AT-2000 support HDMI 2.1 at 4K/120 Hz for gaming consoles?

The unit has HDMI 2.1 inputs and outputs, but the documentation indicates a maximum support of 4K at 60 Hz. The 4K/120 Hz pass-through required by the PS5 and Xbox Series X in performance mode is not confirmed in the official specifications.

What is the difference compared to the AT-3000?

The AT-3000 offers extended decoding up to 9.3.4 channels (versus 7.2.4), differentiated power depending on the channels (240 W for the front channels, 120 W for the others), and a 16-channel preamplified section. It targets more ambitious setups with more ceiling speakers or multiple subwoofers.

Are the menu and app available in French?

The OSD menu is only available in English. The mobile app offers a simplified interface that does not require advanced language skills, but detailed settings are accessed via the on-screen menus.

Can the AT-2000 decode DTS:X Pro streams?

No. Decoding is limited to DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, and their earlier variations. DTS:X Pro, which allows configurations beyond 11 channels, is not supported.
