This elliptical profile is a good compromise between tracking ability, sound fidelity, and record wear.

A Nude Diamond for Reduced Mass

Unlike spherical tips, the elliptical tip of the STYLUS 520 MK II is made of a nude diamond, without a metal support. This design reduces moving mass and improves impulse response. The aluminum cantilever and moving magnet generator also help maintain low mass. This results in high responsiveness, impactful dynamics, and clear high frequencies.

A Proven Moving Magnet Generator

The STYLUS 520 MK II uses the moving magnet (MM) system that has made Ortofon cartridges successful. A small magnet is attached to the cantilever and moves between fixed coils. This reversible principle ensures linear and faithful mechanical/electrical conversion of the signal engraved in the groove. The high output level is compatible with all MM phono inputs of amplifiers.

High Compliance for Light Tonearms

With a compliance of 25 µm/mN, the STYLUS 520 MK II is ideally suited for short and light tonearms with low effective mass. It forms a very dynamic and responsive combination with Ortofon LM and SME tonearms, for example. The recommended tracking force is between 1.25 and 1.75 g, with a nominal value of 1.5 g. The 20° tracking angle ensures good groove wall tracking with reduced distortion.
