Unnu Classic Series Model 221
Overview
The Unnu Model 221 offers a hi-fi storage solution designed to combine visual discretion with sonic functionality. This Danish two-compartment cabinet delivers remarkable modularity thanks to its multiple possible configurations, removable back panels, and acoustically transparent fabric doors. Designed by Mike Fabricius and manufactured in Denmark by Hammel Furniture, it distills into a compact format the principles that made the Clic range successful, while remaining accessible.
Robust construction and refined finishes
The Model 221 is built on a 16 mm MDF panel structure reinforced by four specially designed metal corners in each compartment. This framework gives the cabinet notable solidity despite the absence of a traditional fixed back. The hand-applied polyurethane paint finish ensures wear resistance and long-term color stability.
The internal dimensions of each compartment are 322 mm in height, 482 mm in width, and 378 mm in depth. Without a back panel, the usable depth reaches 430 mm, allowing for amplifiers, network players, or other bulky equipment. The middle shelf can be positioned at three different heights, enabling various configurations depending on device size.
The cabinet is available in four finishes: black paint, white paint, oak veneer, or walnut veneer. Optional wooden doors and drawers come in the same finishes for visual consistency.
Modularity serving practicality
Each of the two compartments can be configured in four ways: open, closed with a fabric door, closed with a wooden door, or replaced by a pair of drawers. This modularity allows the cabinet to be adapted for different uses: showcasing a turntable, concealing an amplifier, storing records.
The fabric doors are one of the defining features of the Unnu system. Stretched over a black MDF frame and edged with a black trim, they come in nine colors across two ranges: Melange (charcoal, concrete, frost, coffee, latte) and Basic (white, silver, black, gray). The fabric lets sound pass through without notable alteration and remains transparent to infrared remote signals, allowing you to control devices without opening the doors. Note, however: the white fabric soils easily and is not suitable for equipment that requires daily handling.
Additional shelves can be ordered separately. Likewise, feet, casters, and wall-mounting systems are available as options, allowing you to adjust the height and installation method according to space constraints.
Elegant cable management
The Model 221 includes two cable pass-throughs: one centered on the top panel and another on the bottom panel. These openings make it easier to connect stacked devices and route cables from one level to another without them being visible.
The back panels attach magnetically 5 cm from the rear of the cabinet. This spacing creates a technical cavity where interconnects, power strips, and power supplies can be concealed. The magnetic mounting allows these panels to be removed in seconds to access cabling without disassembling the entire cabinet.
Optional aluminum cable-cover plates, discreetly engraved with the Unnu logo, are available. Offered in silver or black, five different models suit various cable exit configurations, contributing to the cabinet’s clean aesthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the fabric doors really affect sound or remote-control signals?
Unnu’s fabric doors allow sound and infrared remote signals to pass without perceptible degradation. The fabric, stretched over a frame, vibrates slightly with sound waves rather than blocking them. User tests show that remotes work normally through the fabric, allowing you to control devices without opening the doors.
Can multiple Model 221 cabinets be combined?
Yes, the Unnu range is based on a modular system that allows models to be combined side by side or stacked. Standardized dimensions facilitate these assemblies. The cable pass-throughs at the top and bottom of each cabinet enable interconnections between modules. The aluminum cable-cover plates ensure a neat finish at the junctions.
What is the difference between Unnu and Clic?
Unnu adopts Clic’s functional concepts (acoustic doors, removable panels, cable management) in a more cost-effective construction. While Clic uses premium materials and traditional craftsmanship, Unnu favors painted MDF and streamlined production at Hammel Furniture. This approach makes Unnu cabinets significantly more accessible while preserving the essential functionality.
