ArtSound RO2060 (pack of 2)

Two years of development have led to this round in-ceiling speaker from the Intiimi series, whose Finnish name evokes purity. The RO2060 concentrates ArtSound’s efforts to reconcile acoustic performance and architectural integration, with a flush grille barely 1 mm thick and a visible protrusion of less than 5 mm once installed. The 2-way coaxial driver houses a 15 cm woofer and a pivoting titanium dome tweeter, all in a format suitable for rooms up to 50 m².

A grille that knows how to disappear

The speaker vanishes into the ceiling thanks to a design where the front plate and the driver are molded as one single piece. This one-piece ABS structure ensures high rigidity and eliminates unwanted vibrations that could color the sound or create resonances with the mounting surface. The very fine metal mesh of the grille lets sound waves pass through with no significant obstruction while effectively filtering dust, a valuable asset for ceiling installations where access for maintenance is limited.

For even more seamless integration, an optional recessed mounting kit (FLKIT RO2060) allows you to perfectly align the grille with the ceiling surface, with no relief or offset. The grille can also be painted to match the color of the room.

A titanium tweeter with adjustable orientation

The 25 mm high-frequency driver uses a titanium dome combined with a neodymium magnet, a choice that favors both lightness and responsiveness in the upper end of the spectrum. Its patented suspension allows it to be oriented at the desired angle, offering flexibility to direct the treble towards the main listening area even when the speaker is not positioned directly above the listeners. An independent level adjustment for this tweeter lets you fine-tune the tonal balance according to personal preferences or the room’s acoustics.

The 15 cm woofer, also equipped with a neodymium magnet, handles the midrange and bass. The coaxial configuration places the tweeter in the center of the woofer, creating a single, coherent point source that is particularly advantageous for uniform coverage throughout the space.

Dual-stage filtering

The signal from the amplifier passes through a crossover that splits the frequencies between the two drivers, supplemented by an equalization network that refines the response curve. This two-stage approach aims for a balanced reproduction across the entire spectrum, from the specified 58 Hz at the low end up to 20 kHz in the highs.

With a sensitivity of 87 dB and an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms, the RO2060 works with amplifiers delivering between 40 and 140 W. It is therefore compatible with most hi-fi or home cinema amplifiers on the market, without requiring particularly powerful electronics.

Installation and space constraints

The cut-out diameter of 210 mm and the depth of 100 mm are the main dimensions to check before installation. You will therefore need enough plenum space behind the ceiling to accommodate the chassis. The weight of 1.8 kg per speaker remains moderate and should not be an issue with standard mounting surfaces.

The Intiimi series also includes a more compact model, the RO2040, with a 10 cm woofer for rooms up to 40 m², as well as rectangular versions (RE2040, RE2060) that may better fit certain architectural layouts or be installed in walls.
