A center speaker that disappears into the wall while delivering hi-fi-grade sound: that’s the promise of the Atelier InWall 9C. Canton designed it for home theater setups where architectural integration matters just as much as sound quality. With its elongated format—90 cm wide and only 7.5 cm deep—it can slide under a recessed TV or sit in the middle of a media-wall unit without disrupting the room’s aesthetics.
A full 3-way system in a slim format
The Atelier InWall 9C uses a 3-way bass-reflex design that allows it to cover an extended spectrum, from 35 Hz to 40 kHz. That’s no small feat for an in-wall speaker this thin.
The transducer system is based on four 128 mm drivers using Canton’s ATB (Aluminum Titanium Black) technology. Two of them handle the midrange and bass, while the other two operate as passive radiators to reinforce low frequencies without increasing the cabinet volume. This configuration delivers deep bass despite the absence of a dedicated subwoofer. The Wave Surround suspension, a multi-fold design used in Canton’s higher-end ranges, allows for large cone excursions while maintaining precise control of movement.
High frequencies are handled by a 25 mm AB (Aluminum Black) tweeter with an aluminum dome. Canton has integrated a one-piece high-frequency grille with an acoustic lens, manufactured from a single part to eliminate production tolerances. This lens controls sound dispersion and widens the sweet spot—an asset in a home theater context where several people are watching from different positions.
Installation designed to disappear
The InWall 9C is mounted flush with the wall using a robust claw-mount system compatible with different types of partitions (drywall, wood, etc.). Once installed, only the fabric grille remains visible.
This grille is worth a closer look. Magnetic and frameless, it is intentionally oversized compared to the speaker itself: 950 × 245 mm versus 900 × 195 mm for the chassis. This extra 5 cm in width and height completely hides the wall cutout, the mounts, and any finishing imperfections. The result is a uniform, acoustically neutral fabric surface that blends into the wall.
Dialogue reproduction and multichannel integration
As a center speaker, the InWall 9C’s main mission is to reproduce voices and sound effects located at the center of the soundstage. Its sensitivity of 89.5 dB (2.83 V / 1 m) and continuous power handling of 120 W (180 W peak) allow it to keep up with a surround system without compressing dynamic passages.
Its nominal impedance of 4 to 8 ohms makes it compatible with most home theater amplifiers. Canton recommends pairing it with other models from the Atelier series to build a coherent system, whether that’s the Atelier InWall 9 or InWall 11 for the side channels, or the OnWall versions if in-wall mounting is not desired everywhere.

Can the Atelier InWall 9C be installed vertically?
The symmetrical design of the speaker allows both horizontal and vertical mounting. Horizontal orientation is still preferred for use as a center channel, as it favors a wider lateral dispersion and matches the typical position under a screen.
What cable gauge should be used for wiring?
Canton recommends speaker cable of at least 2.5 mm² for runs up to 10 meters. Beyond that, or for demanding installations, upgrading to 4 mm² improves signal transmission and reduces losses.
Is the fabric grille available in multiple colors?
The supplied grille is black. Canton does not offer alternative colors as standard, but the acoustic fabric can be spray-painted with a suitable paint if you want it to blend into a light-colored wall (test first on a sample).
Is a subwoofer necessary with this speaker?
With a rated response down to 35 Hz, the InWall 9C goes low for a center speaker. A subwoofer is still recommended for low-frequency effects (LFE) in movie soundtracks but is not essential for music or dialogue.
Can this speaker be used as a main front speaker?
Technically yes, but that is not its primary purpose. Its horizontal format and voice-optimized design make it a center channel. For the left and right channels, the vertically oriented Atelier InWall 9 models are more suitable.
What minimum wall thickness is required?
The required mounting depth is about 7.5 cm (depth of the speaker without grille). Allowing some clearance for cables, plan for a usable wall thickness of at least 8 to 9 cm.
Is the speaker compatible with Dolby Atmos systems?
It can function as the center channel in an Atmos configuration. For the height channels specific to Atmos, you’ll need ceiling speakers or dedicated modules (such as Canton’s AR series) in addition.
