Projeo PullUP HD 80
Overview
Improvising a movie session at home or in a temporary location often means compromising between image quality and ease of setup. Projeo’s PullUP HD 80 floor screen aims to reduce that compromise: an 80-inch HD screen housed in an aluminum case that sits on the floor and deploys in seconds, with no drilling or wall mounting.
Deployment in seconds, with no drilling
The principle of a “pull-up” screen is simple to describe and quick to carry out. The case is placed flat on the floor, you grasp the top bar and pull the screen upward. A support arm at the back holds everything in position, and the manual operation avoids any need for electrical power or a remote control. Storage follows the reverse path: the screen rolls back into the case, which returns to its elongated box shape.
This approach changes how home projection is handled. No wall mount to install, no ceiling to drill into, no fixed rod. The screen can be set up in the living room for the duration of a movie and then disappear again, which suits living spaces where you do not want to dedicate a wall to projection. The same screen can then be moved to another room or another location.
PET screen material and image rendering
The projection surface is a white PET screen, a plastic material with a smooth, even surface that limits flatness defects once the screen is tensioned. Its 1.1 gain remains close to that of a neutral reference screen. In practical terms, it reflects a little more light toward viewers than a standard matte white screen, which brings a slight increase in perceived brightness and contrast without altering colorimetry. The projector’s original colors are reproduced as they are.
The stated 170° viewing angle refers to the width of the angle from which the image remains readable. With such a wide value, viewers seated at the sides of a sofa or spread around the room see a consistent image, without a marked drop in brightness off the central axis. This characteristic goes hand in hand with moderate gain: a high-gain screen increases front-facing brightness but loses uniformity at the sides, the opposite of the choice made here.
A black border surrounds the usable surface. Measuring 20 mm at the top and sides, it frames the image and reinforces the sense of contrast by isolating the projected area from its surroundings.
An aluminum case for transport
The housing that encloses the screen is made of black lacquered aluminum alloy. This material protects the rolled-up screen from impacts and dust between uses, and gives the PullUP HD 80 useful rigidity during transport. Measuring 190.5 cm wide and around a dozen centimeters deep, the case remains slim once closed. The transport packaging measures 200 × 20 × 12 cm.
One practical point deserves attention: the product must be stored horizontally. Keeping the case lying flat preserves the roll-up mechanism and the screen tension over time. Projeo backs the screen with a two-year warranty.
16:9 format and image height
The PullUP HD 80 displays a usable image of 176 × 99 cm, i.e. an 80-inch diagonal in 16:9 format, the ratio used by most movies, series, and high-definition content. When deployed, the screen reaches a total height of 190 cm.
The difference between these two figures is explained by the lower black border, which is 800 mm high. This strip separates the bottom of the image from the case placed on the floor and raises the projected area to a comfortable height for a seated audience. The image does not reach floor level; it sits above the height of a coffee table or the heads of viewers in the front row. For a more generous diagonal, Projeo offers the PullUP HD 90 in the same range, with an image measuring 196 × 110.3 cm.
Which projector to pair with the PullUP HD 80
The PullUP HD 80 is used with a long-throw projector, in other words a model installed several meters from the screen, placed on a piece of furniture, a shelf, or mounted on the ceiling. The 1.1 gain and wide viewing angle match this type of light beam, projected from the front and at a distance.
Ultra-short-throw projectors, placed just below the image, belong to a different category. They are paired with a screen featuring a specific structure, suited to a beam arriving at a very steep angle. The PullUP HD 80 does not offer this structure and will not deliver a satisfactory result with a projector of this type. Checking the type of projector and its projection distance before purchase helps avoid this pairing mistake.
Frequently asked questions
Does installation require two people?
One person is enough. The case is placed on the floor, then the screen is pulled upward by the top bar until the support arm locks into place. The operation requires little force and remains accessible without prior experience. For transport, the closed case can be carried with one hand.
What distance should be planned between the projector and the screen?
That distance depends on the projector, not the screen. Each model has a throw ratio that determines the required distance to obtain an 80-inch image. The projector’s technical specifications indicate this value, sometimes as a range if the device has optical zoom. In general, allow several meters with a long-throw projector.
Does the 16:9 format make it possible to watch content in other aspect ratios?
Yes. The surface is fixed in 16:9 format, but a movie in 2.35:1 cinema format will be displayed with two black bars at the top and bottom, and 4:3 content with two bars at the sides. The image remains correctly proportioned in all cases. 16:9 is the most common ratio for current high-definition content.
Can the PullUP HD 80 be used outdoors?
Outdoor projection is possible on a flat, stable surface, sheltered from wind that would make the screen move. The screen is not waterproof equipment, and moisture as well as abrasive dust would damage it. Evening use in dry weather, on a terrace or in a garden, poses no particular difficulty, provided the screen is put away afterward.
What distinguishes the PullUP HD 80 from the PullUP HD 90?
The image size. The PullUP HD 80 offers an 80-inch diagonal (176 × 99 cm) with a deployed height of 190 cm. The PullUP HD 90 goes up to 89 inches (196 × 110.3 cm) and 202 cm in height. Both screens share the same PET screen material, the same 1.1 gain, and the same manual operation. The choice depends on the available space and the projector’s throw distance.
