NuPrime SiGa Power 75, external SiC and GaN power supply

A DAC, a streamer, a network switch: these low-voltage devices almost always come with a small generic mains adapter whose switching noise eventually makes its way into the signal. NuPrime tackles the issue head-on. The SiGa Power 75 pushes the switching frequency very high using silicon carbide and gallium nitride semiconductors, then cleans up what remains with active noise cancellation and careful shielding.

Silicon carbide and gallium nitride in tandem

The conversion section combines two families of so-called wide-bandgap semiconductors, capable of switching faster and withstanding higher voltages and temperatures than conventional silicon. Silicon carbide (SiC) is used for the Schottky diodes in the rectification stage: their reverse recovery charge is virtually zero, limiting the high-frequency spikes generated at each switching event. Gallium nitride (GaN) handles the switching itself, at over 500 kHz, with transient response on the nanosecond scale. The practical result is that voltage remains stable when current demand changes abruptly. The switching frequency is also well above the audio band, while efficiency rises to 93% at 12 V/5 A, with less heat to dissipate. The SiGa Power 75 is a switching power supply, but it targets the noise level usually expected from a linear unit.

Active common-mode noise cancellation

Common-mode noise is the parasitic component present identically on both conductors relative to ground; it is often what couples into sensitive digital circuits and masks low-level detail. The SiGa Power 75’s CM-ANC circuit continuously monitors it and injects an out-of-phase corrective signal to cancel it, across a wide bandwidth extending up to 1 MHz. The effect is measurable: residual ripple and noise remain below 2.5 mVrms across the 10 Hz-110 kHz range, and on the 12 V line, typical ripple falls below 1 mVrms when cancellation is active, compared with 2.5 mVrms when it is switched off. A front-panel control is used to activate or deactivate it.

Six outputs to power a digital system

Whereas an ordinary mains adapter delivers only one voltage, the SiGa Power 75 offers six outputs: four 12 V outputs up to 5 A on 5.5 × 2.5 mm DC connectors, and two 5 V outputs up to 3 A on USB Type-A ports. The combined power of the entire unit does not exceed 75 W. A single enclosure can therefore power several elements of a digital system at once: a network switch, a streamer, a converter, a reclocker, as long as the total remains within the 75 W limit. This reserve must be distributed among the connected devices, which the front-panel display helps monitor.

A display for reading voltage, current and power

Few external power supplies show what they deliver. The SiGa Power 75 incorporates a display that indicates voltage, current and power consumption in real time, allowing each output to be checked and the total to remain below 75 W. It is accompanied by two controls: a DIM setting to adjust or dim the display brightness, and a dedicated button for active noise cancellation.

Bronze shielding and low-impedance energy reservoir

The GaN module is enclosed in bronze shielding. This metal combines conductivity, mass and damping properties: it blocks radio-frequency interference and dampens mechanical resonances, while limiting interactions between the various internal modules. On the storage side, a two-stage, high-quality-factor energy reservoir separates the rectification stage from the regulation stage. Output impedance remains low, voltage holds up better against load variations, and residual ripple as well as downstream timing errors (jitter) are reduced. Polymer capacitors and filtering circuits complete the cleanup. The metal enclosure remains compact, measuring 95 × 170 × 60 mm and weighing 1 kg, with four self-adhesive rubber feet and a one-year warranty.

Compatibility with NuPrime and third-party devices

The 12 V outputs use 5.5 × 2.5 mm DC connectors, whereas NuPrime devices equipped with a 12 V input use a 5.5 × 2.1 mm connector. Two 5.5 × 2.5 to 5.5 × 2.1 mm adapter cables are therefore supplied: they cover the CDT-9 and NuPrime-X modules (H16-AIP, H16-AES, AoAES-F22D, AoANA-F04A). Devices with a USB-C input, such as the LP10 NuPrime Edition, WR-2, Arc Mini, Stream Mini and Stream Mini DAC, connect using a USB-A to USB-C cable, which must be purchased separately as it is not included in the box. A device from another brand will also work, provided its voltage, current and connector match one of the outputs. The package includes the two DC cables, a mains power cord and the four adhesive feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the SiGa Power 75 replace a linear power supply?

It takes a different approach. Rather than using a transformer followed by linear regulation, it relies on silicon carbide and gallium nitride semiconductors, along with active noise cancellation, to achieve very low ripple. Compared with a single-output linear power supply such as the brand’s LPS-205 or LPS-212, it also offers the ability to power several devices from a single enclosure.

Can it power a device that is not a NuPrime brand?

Yes, as long as the specifications match. Check that the device accepts 12 V (via a 5.5 × 2.5 mm connector) or 5 V (via USB Type-A), that the required current remains below the output limit, and that the connector polarity is correct.

How is the power distributed between the outputs?

Each device connects to its own output, and the power consumption (voltage multiplied by current) is added together to stay below 75 W in total. For example, a 12 V/3 A streamer (36 W) combined with a 12 V/1.5 A switch (18 W) and a small 5 V/1 A peripheral device (5 W) leaves some headroom. The display lets you monitor the actual total.

Should noise cancellation be left on at all times?

In most cases, yes, since it reduces residual ripple on the 12 V output. The front-panel control is mainly used to compare the two states on your own setup and confirm the improvement before leaving it enabled.

Does the enclosure need ventilation?

Its high efficiency, up to 93%, limits heat dissipation compared with a linear power supply of comparable capacity, and it cools without a fan. Simply allow some air around the enclosure; the supplied adhesive feet raise it slightly.

Is it suitable for a network switch or router in a streaming chain?

Yes. These network devices operate at low voltage and are often placed upstream of a streamer or DAC, where their original power supply can introduce noise. Powering them from the SiGa Power 75, at 12 V or 5 V depending on the model, puts the entire start of the chain on a cleaner power source.
