Cambridge Audio EDGE
February 16, 2019

Cambridge Audio and HiFi have a long love story. Since 1968 to be exact. 50 years of history, which began with an integrated amplifier, designed by a certain Gordon Edge. This year thus celebrates the half-century of our dear Cambridge Audio stereo electronics manufacturer, and this anniversary date coincides with the arrival of a new range: EDGE, of course.
With it, Cambridge Audio wants to go further than anything it has designed to date. Even the 851 series was only halfway to what the brand envisioned for EDGE, to make it enter the closed circle of high-end hifi designers. The series is well and truly tailored for 2018. Its design first of all is sober but effective. Its declination then reflects today’s use. We will thus find a network player integrating both a converter and a preamplifier, EDGE NQ, a power amplifier to match it, EDGE W and an integrated amplifier with converter, EDGE A.
A sober design
On the aesthetic side, Cambridge Audio has gone all out. The devices feature very seductive curves and a minimalist philosophy. The chassis, with an aluminum finish, is of high quality and gives a feeling of robustness to the devices. Lifting the EDGE will confirm this feeling, going up to 35kg per unit. For the amplifiers, the heat sinks are elegantly positioned on the sides of the devices.
Symbol of this aesthetic minimalism, Cambridge Audio has developed a specific double control button for EDGE. It delivers the front panels of the EDGE NQ and EDGE A from the multiple selection buttons usually present. You can thus control both the volume and the inputs with a simple gesture. For total control - at least for the EDGE NQ - Cambridge Audio has developed a dedicated application, EDGE Remote, for iOS and Android devices.
