EISA Awards: Award-Winning Product

Each year, dozens of European journalists gather to select the best electronic products of the year. Awarded by a diverse and impartial jury, the EISA (Expert Imaging and Sound Association) awards recognize exceptional products for their performance, design, or ergonomics.

Overview

The NEO Stream is designed to offer versatility and optimal sound performance. It combines the latest version of the network streaming engine with an award-winning DAC stage to deliver a level of audio previously unattainable.

This streamer is ideal for passionate music lovers who want to experience their music with exceptional sound quality using their choice of control app or music platform. Several different settings allow users to adapt the performance of the NEO Stream to their system and how they like to stream.

Exclusive modes are individual settings that optimize performance by focusing operation on a single usage mode. There are specific settings for Roon, Tidal Masters, DLNA and NAA, as well as a general mode for multi-platform use.

What the press says

The Neo Stream naturally benefits from the manufacturer's expertise in audio architecture. For example, the conversion stage uses a Burr-Brown chip with a 16-core X-MOS controller upstream. Furthermore, the PCM and DSD streams are separated on dedicated channels in this DAC (which has four conversion channels). In this case, the channels handling DSD do not apply conversion to PCM, which is quite rare on modern DACs. Finally, the digital signals are managed by iFi's in-house GMT clock.

I switched from a Bluesound network player to this one and wow, what a difference!
Everything is clearer. The optical connection probably plays a role.
I did put the streamer on a power conditioner though.
The app could use some improvement, but otherwise the streamer works wonderfully with Roon.

Excellent streaming DAC with good Tidal integration. Very flexible configuration options. Very good value for money for such sound quality.

After a few weeks of use, I find this to be a quality product. It meets my expectations from a musical standpoint, no issues there. I'm not an expert. I wanted a device capable of playing Hi-Res music, and it does that very well.
However, I have two complaints: the setup process and the interface.
For the setup, I had to fumble around and struggle. It was impossible to figure out how to pair my phone with the iFi Streamer app. I finally managed to do it by chance, without understanding how. But then it was impossible to configure my NAS. Again, more trial and error and searching for help online (there's no documentation worthy of the name). I eventually figured it out on my own.
As for the interface, since I couldn't get the app to work stably (the WiFi config disappeared after restarting the streamer), I accidentally discovered that you can access it from a PC - there's a complete web interface. The usability is mediocre, but it allows you to control things. However, it's incompatible with the app due to differences in the WiFi IP addressing scheme. Oh, and you need to have network engineering skills to understand how to make it work.
In short, it's been a hassle. This is a product made by engineers for engineers. Honestly, I regret choosing this product, especially given its price. Fortunately, it sounds good.
