Focal, a renowned French manufacturer of audio equipment, has introduced the Azurys, a closed-back headphone designed to deliver an immersive, high-quality listening experience. These headphones combine Focal’s expertise in speaker technology with an elegant and comfortable design, making them an appealing choice for audiophiles and music enthusiasts.
Thanks to its closed-back architecture, the passive Azurys headphones can be used at home or on the go. They are aimed at all music lovers and enthusiasts who want to enjoy Focal sound through an accessible product.
At the heart of the Focal Azurys are proprietary 40mm “M” shaped aluminum-magnesium dome drivers. This patented Focal innovation combines the rigidity of aluminum with the damping properties of magnesium, resulting in precise and dynamic sound reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum. The drivers deliver deep, impactful bass, smooth treble, and clear, detailed midrange, allowing listeners to enjoy their favorite tracks with exceptional clarity and realism.
The acoustic treatment applied to the earcups minimizes resonance and ensures accurate sound reproduction. The closed-back design of the Azurys provides excellent isolation, preventing sound leakage and allowing users to immerse themselves in their music without disturbing others or being distracted by outside noise.
Azurys features the same design and noble materials as Hadenys: genuine leather, braided fabric, aluminum, and magnesium. However, what sets it apart is its unique bluish hue, inspired by azurite, a semi-precious stone renowned for its many virtues. This shade brings a singular and captivating touch, highlighting the aesthetics of the headphones.
The aluminum headband offers a constant curve between the headband and the earcups, ensuring a perfect fit and even weight distribution for extended comfort during long listening sessions.
The earcups are equipped with memory foam cushions that adapt to the shape of the user’s head, providing excellent isolation from external noise. The structured black coating of the earcups offers resistance to shocks and scratches, ensuring that the headphones maintain their impeccable appearance over time.
Focal has paid particular attention to the comfort and ergonomics of the Azurys, ensuring a pleasant listening experience even during extended sessions. The headband features a constant profile that evenly distributes weight across the head, avoiding pressure points and fatigue. The memory foam earpads provide a secure and comfortable fit, adapting to different face shapes and providing effective noise isolation.
The Hadenys (open-back) and Azurys (closed-back) from Focal are fraternal twins that champion a proven design philosophy, letting the case design dictate each model’s personality. By stripping away wireless frills and harmonizing all other components (driver, yoke, pads, wiring), Focal highlights the sonic trade-offs between openness and isolation. If you own one, you’ll immediately understand the other; with both, you’ll rarely worry about picking the wrong headphones for the occasion.
The rest of the sound signature meets expectations, although I would still say it feels more spacious than most closed-back models in this price range. The treble may be brighter than some might prefer, but for those like me, it adds a lively and engaging edge.

These headphones are among the best closed-back headphones I have ever heard. In this price range, they are an obvious choice. Don't expect a neutral, analytical sound, but pure listening pleasure and emotion. You can enjoy them for hours thanks to their great comfort. Don't hesitate, unless you are looking for neutral reproduction.

Nice headphones with, in my opinion, a bit too much bass, but of course you can adjust that with an equalizer.
Voices are nicely up front.
Very satisfied with them.
