Overview
The German manufacturer Canton offers with the InCeiling 949-16 a high-impedance variant of its most compact ceiling model in the 900 series. This 16-ohm version meets a specific technical need: connecting several speakers in parallel on the same amplification channel without letting the impedance drop below acceptable thresholds. A frequency response extending up to 40 kHz positions this model at the high end of in-wall/ceiling speakers.
Ceramic drivers and pivoting tweeter
The InCeiling 949-16 adopts the acoustic configuration of the 900 series: a 25 mm ceramic dome tweeter and a 135 mm mid-bass driver, also featuring a ceramic cone. For these transducers, Canton uses a manufacturing process that partially transforms the molecular structure of aluminum into ceramic, then reinforces it with tungsten particles. The result: lightweight, rigid cones with high internal damping.
The tweeter pivots on its axis. This freedom of movement allows you to direct the high frequencies toward the main listening area, even when the installation point is off-center relative to the listeners’ position. A high-frequency level adjustment potentiometer completes this room-adaptation feature; it compensates for acoustic variations related to the speaker’s immediate environment (proximity to a wall, ceiling height, absorbent or reflective materials).
Bass-reflex design and simplified installation
Despite a compact diameter of 17.7 cm and an installation depth of only 7.5 cm, the InCeiling 949-16 goes down to 50 Hz thanks to its built-in bass-reflex port. This reduced depth makes installation easier in technical ceilings or thin suspended ceilings. The cutout diameter is 15 cm.
The mounting brackets deploy from the rear to rest against the upper side of the ceiling. The system supports panel thicknesses of up to 4 cm. The metal grille, held in place by magnets, can be removed without tools. It has no visible frame and can be painted to blend into the décor.
Canton’s Easy-Link terminals use gold-plated contacts and allow fast, durable speaker cable connection, with no soldering or screws.
Why choose the 16-ohm version
The only difference between the standard InCeiling 949 (8 ohms) and this 16-ohm version is the nominal impedance. The sound characteristics and construction remain identical.
The benefit of a 16-ohm impedance becomes clear as soon as you want to wire multiple speakers in parallel. Two InCeiling 949-16 speakers in parallel present a resulting impedance of 8 ohms, a standard value that the vast majority of hi-fi and home theater amplifiers handle without difficulty. With four speakers in parallel, you get 4 ohms. This wiring is suitable for multiroom systems where a single channel powers several speaker points in the same zone.
The power handling remains unchanged: 50 watts continuous, 100 watts musical peak.
Integration in a complete system
The InCeiling 949-16 can be combined with other models in the 900 series: the InCeiling 969 (16.5 cm driver) and InCeiling 989 (20 cm) to cover larger volumes, or the InWall 949 LCR to form the front channels of a home theater system. All share the same transducer technologies and grille finish, ensuring sonic and visual consistency in a mixed ceiling/wall installation.

How do I wire two 16-ohm speakers in parallel?
