Overview
Restaurant terraces, hotel patios, poolsides, reception areas: the acoustic and environmental constraints of these spaces demand robust speakers with no compromise on sound. The PSM-450-T applies to professional installations the technologies that Klipsch has been developing since 1946 for its high-fidelity speakers, with a wall-mount format suited to confined spaces and IPX6-certified weather resistance.
A folded port for lower frequency extension
The main challenge of a compact speaker is bass extension. To virtually lengthen the port without increasing the cabinet volume, Klipsch developed the Tractrix Hyperfold Port: a port folded in five segments that extends the effective acoustic length well beyond what a straight tube would allow in the same footprint. This design reduces air turbulence at high output levels — those unwanted noise artifacts (sometimes called “chuffing”) that betray undersized ports. The PSM-450-T reaches down to 60 Hz (±4 dB), or even 50 Hz at a 10 dB attenuation, which remains impressive for a 114 mm woofer.
A compression driver for the highs
The tweeter features a 25 mm titanium diaphragm mounted on a compression driver, coupled to the Tractrix-geometry K-1500M horn. This type of loading, which Klipsch has used since 1989 across its high-fidelity ranges, focuses acoustic energy toward the listening area while limiting unwanted reflections off surrounding walls. The stated coverage is 90° horizontal and ±40° vertical, with a directivity index of 7 dB (±3 dB) between 800 Hz and 20 kHz. This controlled directivity allows a terrace to be covered without spilling sound into neighboring areas or saturating the ceiling of an awning.
The crossover frequency between the low and high frequencies is set at 2 kHz. This choice places the transition in a zone where both drivers behave linearly, avoiding coloration caused by a crossover point too close to the bandwidth limits of either driver.
A construction designed for outdoor use
The painted ABS cabinet is UV-resistant and withstands temperature variations. The corrosion-resistant treated aluminum grille can be repainted to blend into a wall or façade; security screws prevent accidental or deliberate removal. The IPX6 rating certifies resistance to powerful water jets, which easily covers driving rain, salt spray, or jet washing.
The included “C”-shaped wall bracket allows the speaker to be oriented vertically or horizontally, and angled toward the desired listening area. The mounting system remains discreet once the speaker is installed.
Integrated transformer for 100 V and 70 V lines
Distributed sound reinforcement installations often use high-voltage lines (70 V in the United States, 100 V in Europe and Asia) to power many speakers over long distances without excessive losses. The PSM-450-T integrates a multi-tap transformer accessible in the connection compartment. The available settings are 15 W, 7.5 W, 3.8 W, and 1.9 W at 70 V, or 15 W, 7.5 W, and 3.8 W at 100 V. A bypass position allows the transformer to be bypassed and the speaker to be used at low impedance (8 ohms), with a power handling of 50 W RMS and peaks of 200 W.
Connection is made via a four-pin Euroblock terminal block (Phoenix connector), which accepts cables up to 2.5 mm² (14 AWG gauge). This type of connection, faster than a traditional screw terminal, simplifies on-site work.
Where this speaker fits in
The PSM-450-T is the most compact model in the PSM series, which also includes 133 mm (5.25”), 165 mm (6.5”), and 203 mm (8”) versions. Its format suits spaces where visual bulk must remain minimal: shop fronts, pergolas, hotel corridors, gyms, locker rooms. The maximum sound pressure level of 102 dB and sensitivity of 88 dB are sufficient for background music and announcements, but an installation requiring sustained output over a large area will benefit from adding a subwoofer or opting for a larger-diameter model in the range.
Indoors, the IPX6 protection rating has no direct utility, but the ABS cabinet and aluminum grille remain relevant in humid environments: professional kitchens, spas, indoor swimming pools.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the speaker sold as a pair?
No, the PSM-450-T is sold individually. This allows the number of speakers to be tailored to the exact configuration of each installation. The black and white models share the same technical specifications.
Can the grille be painted to match a specific décor?
Yes. The corrosion-resistant treated aluminum grille accepts standard paints. Klipsch recommends removing it before application to avoid getting paint on the speaker diaphragm.
What cable should be used for a 100 V line installation?
A two-conductor cable with a 1.5 mm² cross-section is suitable for moderate distances (less than 50 m). For longer runs or installations with many speakers, moving up to 2.5 mm² limits losses. The Euroblock terminal block accepts up to 2.5 mm².
