Furutech Fi-E30 NCF (G): audiophile Schuko socket

The final link in the electrical network is in the wall, just before current reaches your equipment. A quality socket at this point stabilizes the connection and limits noise that interferes with the power supply. Furutech, a Japanese manufacturer specializing in connectors and mains treatment, offers its Fi-E30 NCF (G) Schuko socket with a body loaded with anti-resonance material and treated, gold-plated copper conductors.

A Schuko receptacle to install yourself

This is a receptacle only, not a complete ready-to-install socket. It measures 50.6 × 50.6 × 36 mm and comes without a faceplate. Its function remains that of a domestic Schuko socket: two poles plus earth, 16 A at 250 V, with Dutch KEMA-KEUR certification (reference 2076417.01) confirming its electrical compliance. The terminals accept conductors up to approximately 12 AWG, around 2.5 mm in diameter.

Two installation options are possible. In a wall, the receptacle fits into a flush-mount box behind a suitable finishing plate, to be purchased separately. In an enclosure, it serves as a Schuko socket inside a power distributor: Furutech uses the same part in its own distributors, secured to the chassis and connected to an IEC inlet. This versatility has a wiring trade-off. A dedicated 10 AWG line, which is thicker, may exceed the terminals’ capacity, whereas an integrated-faceplate socket such as the FP-SWS accepts larger wire gauges and comes ready to install.

NCF and resonance damping

The acronym that distinguishes this model is NCF: Nano Crystal² Formula. Furutech incorporates this material into the receptacle’s nylon and fiberglass body. Its composition combines a specific crystal, nanometric ceramic particles, and carbon powder.

The crystal has two effects: it generates negative ions that dissipate static electricity, and it converts thermal energy into far-infrared radiation. The ceramic and carbon add piezoelectric damping of micro-vibrations. In practical terms, the socket body absorbs some of the mechanical resonances and reduces the static charge at the contact point, two parameters that affect the quality of the electrical connection.

This treatment is what separates this version from the standard Fi-E30, identical in format and conductor family but without NCF material. The benefit is at the contact level: its extent depends on the condition of the socket you are replacing and the resolution of the rest of the system.

Treated alpha copper, gold-plated contacts

Under the plating, the conductors are made of non-magnetic α (Alpha) copper alloy. All metal parts undergo Furutech’s in-house Alpha process: a two-stage cryogenic treatment that cools the metal to a very low temperature, followed by ring demagnetization. The aim is to reduce noise and distortion introduced at the contact point.

The (G) suffix denotes gold plating. Gold is a soft metal, highly resistant to corrosion, which maintains a clean contact over time. Furutech offers the same socket in a rhodium-plated (R) version, a harder and more wear-resistant metal. The choice between the two mainly depends on consistency with your other Furutech connectors and the desired sonic character: gold delivers a slightly rounder, fuller presentation, while rhodium offers a more neutral and incisive sound. The difference remains a matter of preference and matching with the overall system.

Installing the socket on a dedicated line

Replacing a mains socket should be handled by an electrician: it is work on the home’s 230 V supply, with the associated safety rules. Installation inside a distributor that you assemble yourself is not subject to this constraint, since it does not affect the building’s electrical network.

A dedicated line run directly from the electrical panel to the socket places this type of connector in the best conditions: it avoids sharing the circuit with devices that feed noise back into the mains. Observe the phase, neutral, and earth connections when wiring.

There is also the question of the format in France. The Schuko face uses two side clips for earth, rather than the pin found on French sockets. A hybrid CEE 7/7 plug, the most common type here, plugs in without issue and receives earth through these clips. A strictly French plug with an earth-pin hole, however, will not find a matching pin. Also note that the receptacle, without a faceplate, will not automatically sit flush with a standard flush-mount box: the finishing plate must be selected according to your installation.

No, you receive the Schuko socket insert only. For wall mounting, the faceplate and mounting frame must be selected separately, depending on the flush-mount box and the desired visual finish. In a power distributor, the socket is mounted directly to the chassis, without a faceplate.

Does NCF material require power or maintenance?

No. NCF is a passive material integrated into the plug body. There is nothing to connect, nothing to recharge, and nothing to maintain: its damping and anti-static properties work on their own once the plug is in place.
