The Atoll Electronique HD100 in black is a high-fidelity headphone preamplifier designed to meet the needs of audiophiles. Compact and made in France, it offers features tailored for precise and immersive listening.
The HD100 features a high-quality digital-to-analog converter (DAC) based on the Burr Brown PCM5102 chipset. This renowned chip ensures precise digital signal conversion, preserving the richness and dynamics of the original recordings. The discrete component output stages with no feedback contribute to signal purity, while the use of high-quality MKP capacitors in the audio pathways ensures faithful sound transmission.
The amplifier delivers a generous power output of 1.4 W per channel at 32 ohms, with an impressive dynamic capacity of 6.8 W. This power reserve allows the HD100 to efficiently drive a wide range of headphones, from the most sensitive models to those with demanding impedance requirements.
The HD100 stands out for its versatile connectivity options. On the digital side, it features a USB-B input compatible with PCM streams up to 24-bit/96 kHz, as well as optical and coaxial S/PDIF inputs supporting resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz. This broad compatibility allows you to make the most of high-resolution audio files and quality streaming services.
For analog sources, two RCA line inputs are available. The front panel includes two 6.35 mm jack headphone outputs, enabling simultaneous listening for two users. Finally, a variable-level line output transforms the HD100 into a true preamplifier, making it easy to integrate into a complete hi-fi system.
True to Atoll Electronique’s minimalist aesthetic, the HD100 features a 4 mm thick brushed aluminum front panel, ensuring durability and high-quality craftsmanship. The steel chassis provides excellent protection against electromagnetic interference, preserving the integrity of the audio signal.
The user interface is designed to be intuitive, with an ALPS volume potentiometer offering precise and tactile control. Source selection buttons and a front-panel LED indicator make daily use straightforward. An optional remote control is available for adjusting volume and selecting sources from a distance.
The HD100 excels in reproducing the finest sound details while maintaining a natural tonal balance. The soundstage is expansive and well-structured, allowing for precise localization of instruments and vocals. The bass is firm and articulate, never overpowering the rest of the spectrum.
Dynamic range is one of this amplifier’s strengths, effortlessly handling subtle intensity variations as well as explosive passages. This capability results in a lively and engaging sound reproduction, inviting you to rediscover your music collection in a new light.
Beyond its capabilities as a headphone amplifier, the HD100 can also serve as a preamplifier in a hi-fi system. Its variable-level line output allows direct connection to a power amplifier or active speakers. In this configuration, the HD100 retains its sonic qualities, delivering detailed and balanced sound that will satisfy even the most demanding audiophiles.
Designed and manufactured in Atoll Electronique’s workshops in Brecey, Normandy, the HD100 benefits from the expertise and craftsmanship of a brand recognized in the high-fidelity world. Each unit is carefully assembled using components selected for their sound quality and reliability. This artisanal approach ensures consistent quality and exceptional durability.
The HD120 is an upgraded version of the HD100, offering a USB-B input compatible with 24-bit/192 kHz streams (compared to 24-bit/96 kHz for the HD100) and featuring a built-in Bluetooth receiver, which the HD100 lacks.
Yes, thanks to its generous power output, the HD100 can efficiently drive most audiophile headphones, including high-impedance models.
Absolutely. The USB-B input allows you to connect the HD100 directly to a computer, transforming it into a high-quality external DAC.
No, the HD100 does not natively support DSD file playback. It is limited to PCM formats up to 24-bit/96 kHz via USB and 24-bit/192 kHz via S/PDIF.
Yes, the variable-level line output allows the HD100 to function as a preamplifier, providing a versatile solution for home audio systems.
As with many high-end audio devices, a break-in period can help the HD100 reach its optimal performance. Around 50 hours of use is generally recommended for the components to stabilize.

Used so far as a headphone amplifier, I can only be pleased with this purchase. It powers all my headphones effortlessly. The sound is very decent, a bit dry at times, but this is not strictly a flaw; it’s just its character. I’d like to pair it with an MA100 amplifier in the near future to build my main HiFi system.
