The new Px1 preamplifier sets an absolute standard. Just consider:
Designed around two monophonic preamplifiers combined in a single housing, our Px1 stereophonic preamplifier can be described as a true dual mono, with two EI-type transformers shielded using mumetal plates, a costly but highly effective solution.
The Px1 is the “nerve center” of your hi-fi system. While sound quality was our top priority, we wanted our preamplifier to be compatible with all current analog, digital, dematerialized, or physical sources.
Nothing has been overlooked; each input has been fine-tuned with the ultimate goal of achieving the highest level of musical reproduction. The PX1 features nine analog inputs, including a balanced input and a phono input configurable for MM or MC with dual level. The phono cartridge capacitance is adjustable. On the digital side, the PX is not to be outdone, with three digital optical inputs, one coaxial digital input, one USB B input (asynchronous XMOS), and one USB A input. The conversion of digital signals is handled by the renowned Wolfson WM8740 converter.
These digital inputs are complemented by a proprietary port allowing you to connect the BT direct path X-FTB01 adapter.
Signal processing is as direct as possible to avoid altering its original quality. The Px1’s interactive menu offers two operating modes: “Class A” mode or discrete mode. The “Class A” output is based on a circuit using only bipolar transistors in a “double cascode” configuration, offering performance in terms of distortion gradation close to that of a tube design, thus very homogeneous and biased in Class A. The “discrete” output is a stage based on a more classic topology using a JFET differential input stage and a bipolar current mirror with a Class AB biased output, more prone to odd harmonic distortion, sometimes less appreciated “by ear,” but sometimes also perceived as more defined.
Using the PX1 is particularly easy thanks to a single rotary knob with push-button validation, providing access to input selection, volume adjustments, bass and treble controls, balance, loudness, and disabling automatic shutdown after 30 minutes of inactivity. Finally, in terms of outputs, your PX1 is as comprehensive as it is for inputs: a balanced (XLR), an unbalanced (RCA), a recording (Rec Out), a high-pass output, and two sub-bass outputs. And as the icing on the cake, the designers haven’t forgotten headphone listening enthusiasts, integrating, under the device, independent dual adjustments for two headphones with gain +6, 0, -4 dB and output impedance of 0 or 100Ω.

Very comprehensive preamp, coupled with a good quality DAC. The Bluetooth connection is also very effective. In terms of musicality, nothing to complain about, without marked coloration from my point of view, it pairs very well with my Boxem amp. Very good quality-price ratio in my opinion. (However, I did not test the capabilities of the phono input).
