Coreless direct drive motor for stable rotation

The direct drive system uses a slow-rotation motor to directly drive the platter. This system offers several advantages. It delivers high performance, for example in terms of rotational accuracy and torque power, does not require replacement parts, and maintains high long-term reliability. However, the direct drive system was criticized for causing rotational irregularities, known as “cogging”. Now, a new coreless direct drive motor has been developed for the SL-1210MK7. This motor uses a coreless stator. Removing the core (iron) from the stator has eliminated the cause of cogging. In addition, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets has been optimally enhanced, and the gaps between the coreless stator and rotor magnets have been optimized, resulting in high torque performance equivalent to the SL-1210MK5. With smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor offers precise and faithful reproduction of the “groove” of an analog recording.

Several new features for different playing styles

Torque / brake speed adjustment

The latest digital motor control technology, developed during the design of Blu-ray playback products, has been implemented to facilitate torque and brake speed adjustment, allowing you to adjust them individually in four steps.

Pitch control function

The pitch control function allows precise adjustment of the rotation speed from ±8% to ±16%. This function operates through digital control from slider position detection to motor rotation control, avoiding the unnecessary digital-to-analog conversion step. It greatly improves tracking performance to achieve precise and stable pitch adjustment.

Reverse playback function

The reverse playback function, which offers new possibilities for creative performance, has made its first appearance in the SL-1210 series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm discs, it also supports a rotation speed of 78 rpm.

High-sensitivity tonearm

The tonearm, which has long been at the forefront of DJ equipment, inherits the highly reliable and statically balanced universal S-shaped system. With its high-precision bearings, it achieves higher initial motion sensitivity than the SL-1210MK6. This precision allows it to perfectly track the vinyl groove to ensure excellent tracking performance while minimizing stylus bounce, even under challenging playing conditions such as scratching.
