If the PH10 alone is already spectacular, with the PSU it takes it to the next level. They make a perfect pair that many more expensive preamps can't match.

The PSU-10 from Gold Note is a dedicated power supply solution for the PH-10 phono preamplifier, designed according to Dual Choke Super Inductive technology principles. This separate 3 kg unit developed in Tuscany transforms the mains power signal into stabilized and filtered current, allowing the phono preamp to fully express its analog playback capabilities.
The PSU-10 adopts a distinctive configuration based on four independent transformers, three of which are dedicated exclusively to clean power and a fourth reserved for inductive filtering. This division of functions enables differentiated circuit management: the first three transformers generate the current required for the preamp’s operation, while the last acts as a barrier against electromagnetic interference.
The internal structure includes four distinct power stages, each equipped with its own ultra–low-noise voltage regulator. These regulators keep maximum output voltage variation limited to 0.05%, ensuring remarkable signal stability. The full-power response time, under 2.5 microseconds, attests to the circuit’s responsiveness to instantaneous current demands generated by musical signal variations.
The power supply delivers dynamic power exceeding 50 watts, more than sufficient to handle the most demanding modulation peaks. In normal operation, power consumption remains at 25 watts, dropping below one watt in standby mode.
At the heart of the PSU-10, Gold Note deploys its proprietary Dual Choke technology. This system uses a double inductance that simultaneously drives the negative and positive high-current stages, combined with an inductive filter on the analog stage. This approach fundamentally differs from traditional power supplies with simple capacitive filtering.
In a conventional circuit, the rectified current exhibits a residual sawtooth ripple, generating numerous high-frequency components that regulators struggle to eliminate completely. The PSU-10’s double-choke configuration creates an opposing magnetic field that physically blocks these disturbances before they even reach the regulation circuits.
The chokes used in the PSU-10 function as power inductors, resisting abrupt current variations. This physical property naturally smooths the ripple of rectified current, drastically reducing the line noise rejection rate, which exceeds 80 dB in both differential and common modes.
The PSU-10’s enclosure follows Gold Note’s aesthetic codes: solid machined aluminum with a traditional brushed black anodized finish. The compact dimensions (200 mm wide, 80 mm high, and 260 mm deep) allow discreet integration into existing hi-fi setups.
The minimalist front panel features the Gold Note logo in the upper left corner and a blue LED indicating operating status. The rear panel houses the connections: standard IEC power socket, proprietary PSU OUT connector, and main switch. A specific link cable connects the power supply to the phono preamp via high-quality DIN connectors.
The user manual recommends positioning the PSU-10 on the left side of the PH-10, at a reasonable distance. This physical separation between the power supply and the preamplification circuits is a fundamental element of the design: it prevents mutual electromagnetic interference and preserves the integrity of the amplified audio signal.
Installing the PSU-10 requires a few precautions. The PH-10 preamplifier must have the latest firmware to ensure compatibility with the external power supply. Gold Note provides detailed instructions and the necessary files on its website for this update, which can be performed using a simple USB cable and a laptop.
The startup procedure follows a precise order: power on the PSU-10 via the rear switch, then the PH-10 using its own switch, and finally press the preamp’s front rotary button. A specific icon will then appear in the lower right corner of the PH-10’s screen, confirming detection and use of the external power supply.
The automatic voltage detection system (100–120V or 220–240V) simplifies international use. The mains frequency of 50 or 60 Hz is managed automatically, making the PSU-10 compatible with global electrical standards without user intervention.
No, the standard black PSU-10 is designed exclusively for the PH-10 phono preamplifier. Gold Note offers the PSU-10 EVO for its DS-10 and DS-10 PLUS network players. Each power supply uses specific connectors and voltages tailored to the target device.
Gold Note recommends placing the PSU-10 on the left side of the PH-10, ideally 30–50 cm apart. This separation minimizes electromagnetic interactions between the power supply and the preamp’s sensitive circuits. Absolutely avoid stacking the two devices.
Connect the PSU-10 to the PH-10 and start up following the standard procedure. If no icon appears on the PH-10’s screen or if no sound is produced, the firmware likely needs updating. The full procedure is available in the download section of the Gold Note website.
The separate power supply eliminates residual background noise, particularly noticeable during musical pauses. Dynamics gain in amplitude, the soundstage expands, and instrument localization becomes more precise. Micro-details masked by electrical noise become audible.
Gold Note supplies a specific cable optimized for this connection. Replacing it with another model may compromise performance or compatibility. The proprietary connector and internal wiring are designed to minimize losses and interference.

Combined with the PH-10 phono preamp, it’s a marvel. Judging by the various reviews in the specialist press, the PSU-10 reveals the intrinsic qualities of the PH-10. I can only confirm that it brings more dynamics, a wider and deeper soundstage, tighter bass with more punch. In short, everything is better across the board. However, I did replace the PSU-10’s original power cable with a higher-quality cable and noticed an improvement in dynamics, even though it was already very satisfying with the original cable. Listening has become more composed. Truly a very good duo, this PSU-10 and the PH-10.

Undeniably, it improves the dynamics of the PH-10. More body and attack on strings and percussion. I also notice a noticeably more "3D" soundstage.
Be careful about placement relative to the preamp: positioning it right next to it can generate hum. It is preferable to stack it on top, or to keep it at a significant distance.
