Very good and beautiful amp, just disappointed by the VU meters which don't beat enough with the music, don't give the right information.

Two 300 VA toroidal transformers, a dual-mono architecture, a tube preamp visible through its central window, and blue backlit needle VU meters: the A12 Classic inherits Advance Paris’ expertise while going further than what the A10 Classic offered. Building on the proven hybrid formula—tubes for preamplification, transistors for power—this French integrated amplifier aims for versatility without sacrificing musicality.
Where the A10 Classic used a conventional stereo topology, the A12 Classic opts for a dual-mono design. Each channel has its own 300 VA toroidal transformer, ensuring independent power supplies and limiting interaction between the two channels. This architecture delivers channel separation greater than 75 dB and contributes to signal stability under heavy load.
The power stage operates in class AB and delivers 2 × 190 W into 8 Ω, or 2 × 280 W into 4 Ω. A “High Bias” switch on the rear panel lets you switch to a higher bias setting, close to class A operation for the first few watts. This mode provides extra smoothness and refinement in the midrange at the cost of slightly higher power consumption.
At the heart of the preamplification section, two ECC81/12AT7 tubes process the signal before passing it on to the power stage. These miniature triodes are visible through a front-panel window between the two VU meters. Their role goes beyond aesthetics: they bring a subtle coloration that rounds off transients and enriches harmonics without weighing down the overall presentation. The result leans toward a balance of precision and musicality rather than a clinically neutral sound.
The preamplification section can be disconnected from the power amplification. The A12 Classic can thus be used as a pure power amplifier (via the Main In input) in a home theater system or with an external preamplifier, or conversely operate as a stand-alone preamplifier thanks to its RCA Pre-Out and balanced XLR outputs.
The A12 Classic features a Texas Instruments Burr-Brown PCM1796 converter capable of decoding PCM streams up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to 11.2 MHz (DSD256). Three optical inputs and three coaxial inputs let you connect traditional digital sources, while a USB-B port accepts signals from a Windows or Mac computer in asynchronous mode. An AES/EBU XLR input rounds things out for professional environments or high-end sources equipped with this interface.
Two HDMI inputs are provided: one to connect the audio output of a Blu-ray player or network player, the other compatible with the HDMI ARC protocol to retrieve the audio signal directly from a TV. This feature, uncommon on stereo amplifiers, simplifies integration into an AV system without requiring extra cabling.
A USB-A port also lets you play audio files stored on a USB flash drive (notably MP3 and FLAC at 44.1 and 48 kHz, but not high-resolution files or DSD in this mode).
The built-in phono input supports both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. For the latter, the unit offers input impedance and inductance settings, as well as gain adjustment, accessible via DIP switches on the rear panel. Load capacitance for MM cartridges can be set to three values: 100 pF, 200 pF, or 320 pF. This flexible configuration allows the phono stage to be matched to most cartridges on the market without the need for an external preamp.
On the front panel, a 6.35 mm jack and a 3.5 mm jack feed the built-in headphone amplifier. Switches on the rear allow you to adapt the output impedance and gain to the characteristics of the headphones in use.
Two dedicated subwoofer outputs, each with its own RCA connector, expand integration options. A selectable crossover frequency (75 Hz or 150 Hz) makes it easier to integrate passive or active subwoofers depending on the main speakers.
The A12 Classic provides five unbalanced RCA line inputs and two balanced XLR inputs, plus a REC Out for a recorder and two pairs of speaker terminals (zones A and B, usable separately or simultaneously). Two 12 V trigger outputs allow control of compatible devices.
Bluetooth is not built in as standard, but a proprietary connector on the rear accepts optional X-FTB01 (aptX) and X-FTB02 (aptX HD) modules. Adding one of these modules provides a high-quality wireless link from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
In the absence of a built-in streamer, Advance Paris offers the WTX MicroStream as an option, a compact Wi-Fi module that plugs into an RCA input and provides access to streaming services (Tidal, Qobuz, etc.).
The new A12 Classic from Advance Paris is completely in line with the brand's philosophy. On the agenda: an imposing device that serves as both a DAC and an integrated stereo amplifier, all backed by a plethora of connectivity options and a very ambitious architecture.
The High Bias switch is located on the rear of the unit. When activated, the bias of the power stage is increased, bringing operation closer to class A for the first few watts. This mode enhances midrange smoothness and refines timbre, but slightly increases heat dissipation.
Yes. Thanks to the Main In (or Amp In) input, the A12 Classic can operate as a power amplifier driven by a processor or home theater amplifier. This mode bypasses the internal preamp and must be enabled in the setup menu to avoid any operating errors.
The ECC81/12AT7 tubes are mounted on a socket accessible after removing the top cover. Their typical lifespan exceeds several thousand hours, and replacement does not require any special adjustment.
The USB-A port plays MP3 and FLAC files at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz stored on a USB flash drive. High-resolution files and DSD are not recognized via this input. To use these formats, you must use the USB-B port connected to a computer.
DIP switches on the rear let you select MC mode, adjust input impedance, and change gain. Refer to the quick start guide for the switch positions corresponding to your cartridge.
Yes, the brightness of the VU meter lighting and displays can be adjusted via the unit’s setup menu. You can turn them off completely if you prefer a more discreet front panel.
The A10 Classic delivers 2 × 130 W into 8 Ω with a conventional stereo topology, while the A12 Classic reaches 2 × 190 W into 8 Ω thanks to its dual-mono architecture and two 300 VA transformers. This extra power translates into better control of low-sensitivity speakers and greater dynamic headroom.

I have an Audiophonics NCX 600 amplifier to compare the Advance A12 with, using the WiiM Ultra streamer as a source on Fyne Audio F502 speakers. Connected to the XLR input of the Advance, the first thing I notice from the very first notes is a greater sense of immersion, with finally a 3D soundstage that I didn't have with the NCore 600. I then connected the WiiM Ultra directly to the "in amp" input of the Advance (so just the amplifier section of the Advance) — it's even better in my case. I really get the different sounds detaching from the speakers; this setup brings more transparency in my system... the highs are refined! I'm very happy with my purchase as it is more musical than my NCX 600, the latter being more flat/dull. In home theater, connected to my Yamaha RXA 3020, it makes the sound more immersive and enjoyable.
I can only recommend it... thank you Advance Paris and Home Ciné Solutions for your responsiveness ;-)
