I took the time to break in these new speakers (or perhaps I should say my ears!), and after 2 months I think I have a pretty clear idea. I don't want to be too enthusiastic, but these Martin Logan B2 are something of a revelation; they replace a pair of Q Acoustics Concept 20 which gave me a lot of satisfaction — speakers with a very good press, all things considered — but listening mostly to rock, blues, and jazz, I was left wanting more, it was all a bit tame, very musical and fairly dynamic nonetheless... but these B2 have taken me to the next level, that of live music. At first I was a little surprised, finding them a bit "forward", but as the break-in progressed, that high-frequency presence transformed into genuine presence and the listening experience gained in coherence. These speakers go low with punchy bass (I kept my Highland 265 subwoofer to add body to the low end, the low-pass filter set low — my living room is 60 m²!), and the mid/treble is now a real pleasure. This ribbon tweeter is a knockout — cymbals finally present with intensity rather than buried in the mix, the drums come alive, vocals and guitars are superb, and the dynamics are no slouch either. I'm glad I broke the piggy bank for these B2 bought as second-hand... I can only recommend them to anyone looking for lively speakers with a magnificent sound. On the other hand, they show no mercy to poorly recorded or mixed tracks, and there's no enjoyment to be had there!!
My combo Cambridge CX A81 / Martin Logan B2 / Eversolo DMP A6 Master Edition, Mogami cables plus the Q Acoustics speaker stands I kept, is everything I could ask for. I will however try using the Eversolo acoustic correction microphone, as I lose coherence when I push the volume fairly high.
I also used G.. LE's AI to advise me on settings for the Eversolo's parametric equalizer — it's relevant and interesting, definitely worth trying out!
