Dolby Atmos Soundbar, Yamaha SR-X40A
The Yamaha SR-X40A True X soundbar is designed to deliver an immersive, cinematic sound experience in the comfort of your home. This sleek and powerful soundbar incorporates advanced technologies such as Dolby Atmos to create a truly captivating and enveloping soundstage.
Audio Performance
Dolby Atmos
One of the standout features of the Yamaha SR-X40A is its support for Dolby Atmos, one of the latest and most advanced surround sound formats. This technology allows the soundbar to create a three-dimensional soundscape by using upward-firing speakers to bounce sound off the ceiling, simulating the effect of overhead speakers. The result is a more realistic and immersive audio experience, with sound seeming to come from all around, including above.
Powerful and Precise Sound Distribution
The SR-X40A is equipped with a total of six speakers, including two front-facing speakers, two upward-firing speakers for Dolby Atmos, and two built-in subwoofers for deep, punchy bass. These speakers are powered by a robust amplification system that delivers a total power of 180 watts, ensuring that every detail of your favorite movies, TV shows, and music is reproduced with clarity and precision.
Sound Modes and Clear Voice Technology
The SR-X40A offers four sound modes tailored to different content:
Stereo mode for music and podcasts
Standard mode for TV programs
Cinema mode for an expansive theatrical experience
Game mode for total immersion
Yamaha’s Clear Voice technology enhances dialogue clarity, ensuring that voices are easily understandable even in scenes with background noise or sound effects.
Connectivity and Control
HDMI and Optical Inputs
The soundbar features an HDMI input and an HDMI output with eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) support. This allows for easy connection to your TV and other devices, with the ability to pass through 4K HDR video. An optical input is also available for TVs without HDMI ARC.
Wireless Connectivity
The SR-X40A supports Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless music streaming from compatible devices. It also features Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing streaming via AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect.
Voice Control and App
With Alexa built-in, you can control the soundbar using voice commands. Adjust the volume, change inputs, and play music hands-free. The Yamaha Sound Bar Controller app for iOS and Android devices offers an intuitive interface for controlling the soundbar’s settings and features.
Expand Your System with Wireless Surround Speakers and Subwoofer
For an even more immersive surround sound experience, the Yamaha SR-X40A can be paired with the Yamaha WS-X1A wireless surround speakers and the SW-X100A wireless subwoofer (sold separately). These additional components allow you to create a true 5.1.2 channel surround sound system without the need for complex wiring or installation.
Easy Installation and Control
Setting up the Yamaha SR-X40A is a breeze with the included HDMI and optical cables, as well as the intuitive remote control. The soundbar also supports HDMI-CEC, allowing you to control basic functions like power and volume using your TV’s remote.

Eric
I bought this soundbar with the simple goal of improving the clarity of the original sound from my SONY TV. I use it without a subwoofer or additional speakers. For this use, I noticed a linear increase in volume power and a slight improvement in sound clarity in dialogue mode, but nothing more. Even without a subwoofer, I was expecting more bass amplitude, which doesn’t seem much more present than that of the TV.
I’m therefore a bit disappointed for TV use, but perhaps it’s due to incorrect sound settings on the TV, as the sound seems significantly better when listening to music via Spotify.
To be continued.

A suivre.
